healing hands?

A while back i was told by a spiritualist that i have healing hands
and should learn to develop it as it is a gift.
as any one being through simular and had any advice on developing it.
please dont reply with witty cracks, serious answers only please.
thanks
i know we have search engines but if everyone thought like that ,
what would be the point of yahoo answers/

vti answers:

You could try Reiki, fairly good but expensive.
You could learn Shiatsu – massage using acupoints – you will learn a lot about the energy system which you can use in your healing.
The Aetherius Society, though seemingly a bit ‘way out’ do an excellent Healing course.
Try calling in at local holistic therapy clinics as you pass them, see if any healers advertise – you could try asking them where they trained.
Many churches have healing ceremonies now – you could try there.
Qigong (Chinese exercises) is a form of healing and some systems do hands-on healing too – you could look up local classes (this is what I would recommend – but it’s a much slower process than any of the others)

I have put some websites for you to browse through:-

Ken asks…

What is a “Holistic Paradigm”.?

Holistic paradigm is not only a medical paradigm only. It’s a scientific one, approaching all disciplines.

vti answers:

Holistic paradigm is the creation of a framework for integrating the various healing modalities into one comprehensive mold. In other words, a blending of scientific and alternative ideas into a plan for healing.

Sandy asks…

What has your experience with holistic treatment been like?

My experience- diagnosed with Hypothyroidism caused by a Depo Provera shot. Holistic treatment has been very effective. I realize most medical doctors find it hard to believe in because it was not validated as legitimate in medical school. However my experience has been that the holistic treatment heals the body from internally instead of addressing symptoms with medication.
Great info, I’ve been going to the Integrative Health center in Oakbrook and I’m interested in the book written by Dr. Brownstein (Overcoming Thyroid Disorders).
I’m interested as to why and how many medications don’t help the thyroid and how so many diseases are linked to Hypothyroidism.
That’s brilliant!

vti answers:

I’ve used every major form of holistic medicine and generally don’t bother with conventional medicine any longer except for requisitions for blood tests, etc. My regular MD understands that I won’t use suppressive drugs and is perfectly okay with that. Learning to know which holistic discipline works best in each situation is a valuable tool to ultimately solving your health problems.

For the trolls: “Holistic” means that it treats the whole person, not just standalone symptoms on a one by one basis like allopathic medicine. Holistic also means that the practise does no harm — so there will be no toxic effects from drugs that say lower blood pressure but in the meantime damage your kidneys. It’s just typical of trolls to not even comprehend the terminology of holistic medicine, never mind its scope and application. You apparently don’t comprehend the questions asked either because you substitute propaganda for knowledge.

Healing Root Chakra ?

How do I heal my Root Chakra ?
Thanks in advance ☺

vti answers:

Hello

Firstly know that your subtle energy system is holistic, balance one chakra, balance them all.

If your talking about grounding, you can imagine that you have roots of energy traveling deep into the earth so that all of your negativity etc travels down them, draining into the ground.

David asks…

Is there are holistic way to heal from Endometriosis?

I am looking for a natural way, thru diet, using herbal remedies, and other alternative techniques, to heal from endometriosis. Birth control can help with the symptoms but I want to know how to get rid of the cause.
Tink, thank you for your input. Birth control is made of chemicals, which is not natural or a holistic way to heal. I have taken birth control for 12 years and my symptoms got better but are now back. Birth control depletes your body of: Folic Acid, Magnesium, B2, B6, B12, Vitamin C, and Zinc. “Very uncomfortable” is an understatement for my case. Symptoms: cramping, piercing pain, nausea, vomiting, passing out, cold sweats. I agree exercise can help, especially by increasing blood circulation in the reproductive area which improves function.
I’m still looking for a natural way to heal.

BatMan,
Thanks, I saw that website when I was doing a little research. Good suggestions but I am looking for a little more guidance.

Orlenda,
Thank you, I am familiar with endometriosis. Again, birth control is not a natural way to heal. Surgery, well . . . there is nothing natural about cutting into the human body.
I’m still looking for a natural way to heal.
I have done more research and have discovered, just as I thought, that to heal from endometriosis I will need to change my lifestyle. My holistic doctor knows a lady who has had success healing her clients with a special diet, but this wonderful lady has moved out of the country. Nonetheless I am still determined to find out what she suggests. I have given up meat, milk products/cheese (all animal products except fish), butter, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and processed foods. I am working on giving up alcohol and coffee (I’m down to 1 cup!). So far I feel great and have lost a little weight! My doctor made sure I have all the vitamins I need to make up for what birth control depletes. I’ve discussed my mission with my massage therapist who is going to help release any tension I hold down there. My acupuncturist suggested pressure points to help with the pain the next time it comes. I am also working on loving my reproductive organs. Those with endo understand! Will keep you posted!

vti answers:

Endometriossis is a major medical problem…..if you mean menstral cramps )as teh other people assumed you meant) re-post with that. Endometriosis is when your uterine cells get loose in the rest of your body and attach themselves to other organs and such. It usually requires surgery to remove the foreign cells. Birth control can help cause it reduces your problems with the cells “shedding” every month, but you need ot take it CONSTANTLY-no breaks with the placebo pills in order to get your peroid…..hysterectomy helps as well i hear especially if the overies are removed as well.

Laura asks…

Any home remedies to treat yeast infections in dogs?

My dog has a yeast infection of the skin. I cant take her to a vet right now bc I live about 2 hours away from the nearest one and money is tight right now. Im kind of at my wits end and I was wondering if any over the counter products work, like Vagisil. Ive seen many things online in research on what to try, but its so overwhelming. Any help would be appreciated.

vti answers:

There is an easy fix for a skin yeast infection. The smell can be reduced almost overnight with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and borax.

To prepare the solution, add one tablespoon of borax to one liter of 1% hydrogen peroxide, mix well and spray on the dog all over. Make sure that the entire skin is in contact with the solution. Do not rinse and let dry. This solution should be applied everyday for a week. Most if not all of the smell should be gone by the second week.

Borax is a non-toxic anti-fungal compound which will help in eradicating the yeast infection. Borax is a natural mineral that has a wide variety of uses. It is a component of many cosmetics, used as a food preservative, detergents, enamel glazes, etc.

CAUTION: Make sure that you use Borax, NOT Boric Acid which is toxic. Borax is non-toxic and can be found in the laundry aisle at most major discount stores and grocery stores and it is very inexpensive.

Good luck.

Note:

Never alow your vet to prescribe Prednisone or any other steroid to your dog. Just like in humans, steroids will cause more harm than good.Vets can be very irresponsible when it comes to the prescription of steroids because they are well aware of steroid side effects.

As Dr. Karen Becker, DVM states – “Steroids (also called prednisone, cortisone or the nondescript “allergy shot”) are the least optimal treatment choice, as they work by suppressing your pet’s immune system. Not only can steroids have a negative effect on your pet’s liver, adrenal glands and kidneys, but suppressing your pet’s immune system with steroids also allows for opportunistic yeast and bacteria to grow on your pet’s skin, sometimes increasing the chances that antibiotics may be prescribed.”

yeast infection home remedies?

i know everyone says to “make it a priority” to go to the doctors, but i CAN’T right now. are there any sorts of home remedies i can use that actually work until i can get to the doctors?

vti answers:

You could buy Monistat, and I’d recommend a 3 day + treatment. The one day was always painful for me. You may also find “Azo Yeast” tablets in that aisle that may help.

Keep yourself clean. Wash often but be sure to not let yourself be moist for too long, so dry thoroughly after washing. You can take probiotic supplements with acidophilus, which will help as well. Alternatively, eat yogurt that lists this bacteria on the container. I usually drink kefir, a great probiotic yogurt drink.

Yeast infections really suck, I know. I’m sorry you have to deal with it. I get them often from taking antibiotics (they kill my infection but also destroy the bacteria that keeps vaginal yeast at bay). I wish you luck and hope you can get to a doctor soon!

Donald asks…

Home remedies for a yeast infection?

I know people are going to tell me to go to a doctor but that’s really not an option, not just out of embarrassment for me but for the fact that I have a few fairly recent self harm scars on my hip that I can’t risk a doctor seeing in case they tell my parents (I live in a tiny town, everyone knows everyone). I know people are going to tell me to go to a therapist for that as well but it was just a slip up and I am getting better. On top of all of this I have major exams starting in a week that run on for 2 weeks and I really don’t want to be this uncomfortable while sitting in a boiling room. I’m kind of screwed so any help would be appreciated.

vti answers:

Yes, I am going to tell you to see a doctor, for the yeast infection and for the self-harm. Both are conditions that require the help of a doctor. A great deal of the time, women misdiagnose something like BV for a yeast infection, so you really do need to confirm your diagnosis by seeing a doctor. You can try getting the creams to treat a yeast infection, but they are often too irritating and don’t clear up the matter.

Some homeopathic remedies involve using a tampon covered in plain yogurt (NO SUGAR!!!), wrapping an unbroken garlic clove in gauze and inserting it, and bathing in a dilute vinegar bath. Avoid wearing pants and underwear if you can, or at least wear white cotton panties.

Robert asks…

Treating a yeast infection (home remedies?)?

wondering if anyone has a treatment for yeast infections at home, rather than buying the store bought stuff

vti answers:

Here are 4 natural remedies to dealing with yeast infection:

Yogurt – Something to try that might help ease yeast infection symptoms is yogurt. Yogurt is good for
individuals suffering from yeast infections because yogurt contains an active bacteria known to kill the yeast fungus. However, if you don’t like the taste of yogurt, the flavored ones that come with fruits slices at the bottom are a great alternative. Or you can visit your pharmacist, whereby he can give you a product called Lactinex, which contain the same active fungus-killing bacteria that yogurt does. The application of yogurt in the affected area almost immediately relieves the itch. And in a matter of 1-2 days, the yeast build-up would begin to fade.

Tree oil – Taking a warm tub bath with a few drops of tea tree oil can also help to relieve external symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection. This bath will simply rinse the area continuously with water and tea tree oil. An alternative is also to try a warm bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar mixed in. Both these baths will temporarily soothe the external itching and burning associated with a yeast infection.

Apple Cider Vinegar – This is a great natural treatment as it can bring about quick results for the acute episode of yeast infection. However, like all natural treatments – they do not always work.

Garlic. – Garlic is well know remedy for dealing with many kinds of diseases. Garlic has amazing healing properties and works really well against yeast buildup.

Mandy asks…

YEAST INFECTION! HELP!?

i have a yeast infection, and i was wondering if you knew any easy home remedies to cure it. i’ve heard of putting garlic and yogurt on it. but does it have to be plain yogurt? what are some other cures?

vti answers:

Home remedies do work but it’s all part of a holistic treatment. It requires you to make an all-round lifestyle adjustment, solid commitment to follow the holistic treatment plan step by step and even make dietary changes. Although this sounds a bit tough to many, but when you are rewarded with a life without yeast infection, it all feels right.

Many people are turning towards natural remedies to rid of their yeast infections because they are free from unwanted side effects and they are also easily available. Not to mention OTC medications are very expensive.

Here are some PROVEN natural remedies to cure yeast infection:

*Benefits of Garlic, Honey, Water, And Vinegar*

Garlic is considered one of the major weapons that nature has provided us to fight against yeast. You should apply some garlic paste on the infected area. Burning sensation for some time is natural when you apply garlic. In the long run, this will work like magic.

Though it is a bit sticky, yet if you apply honey on the affected area regularly before bedtime and after waking up, you will soon feel much better.

Water is an antioxidant that helps you in urinating. It is another vital natural cure for yeast infection. It is through urine and feces that we purge our body of infection. Drink as much water as you can.

Vinegar can directly kill the yeast. However, you will have to bear some pain once you apply the solution on the infected area.

For more information on diet tips and how to permanently rid of your yeast infection take a look at the article in the source below.

Best of Luck,

Natural cures for high blood pressure.?

I have asthma/allergies and anemia. I also have blood pressure that was 145/95 in November. I have been using Proventil for a few months for my asthma, but I generally only use it once every few days. When I was told about my high blood pressure in November, the doc said she wanted to wait a month before she decided to put me on medication for it. I then started taking garlic, fish oil, and about that time I started using a Neti pot. When I went back to the doctor, (a month later) my blood pressure was 142/86. I feel that either one or all of the things that I did that I previously mentioned contributed to this significantly lower bottom number. What do you guys think? The doc still decided to put me on atenolol and iron pills, but I am wondering if it can help more than these natural remedies already are.

I do not have high cholesterol or any thyroid issues. I do have a fast heartbeat (about 100 times per minute) The doc thinks that my fast heartbeat is directly related to the anemia.
Phoenix ~ I already said that I was taking garlic. If you read the ENTIRE question, you would have known that 😉
VRG ~ The salt thing is a great point. I never “add” salt to anything, but there is tons of salt in processed foods, so I am trying to eat less of those types food.

I also started taking hawthorne, too, when I started the Atenolol.

vti answers:

Definitely cut out processed foods as much as possible. It’s not just the salt issue but their imbalance of minerals plus artificial ingredients.

Exercise is the complement to diet. Even walking a brisk half hour a day will reduce blood pressure. I’ve done it so I know it.

Herbs like hawthorne berry can be effective for some people but they are not completely harmless. With your allergies I would be careful with herbs.

There are effective natural methods that don’t involve diet or ingesting things like herbs or supplements. Listening to relaxing music and slow breathing are both totally safe and enjoyable activities proven to lower blood pressure, sometimes by very large amounts.

Best of all, you can do them both together. Fifteen minutes a day is all it takes. Check the website below for full information along with free instructions (check the articles for that) and a complete online demo. You don’t even need to register.

Joseph asks…

What kind of food helps in reducing blood pressure.?

vti answers:

If we offered you a miracle remedy that cures “High Blood Pressure” would you buy it? Certainly you would. You won’t find it in a Pharmacy but at the Grocery Store.

Try the Natural Cures for High Blood Pressure.

Symptoms: Mild and moderate hypertension may not produce any symptoms for years. The first symptoms may appear in the form of pain toward the back of the head and neck on waking in the morning, which soon disappears. Some of the other usual symptoms of hypertension are dizziness, aches and pains in the arms, shoulder region, leg, back, etc., palpitations, pain in the heart region, frequent urination, nervous tension and fatigue, crossness, emotional upset, tiredness, and wakefulness.

A person suffering from high blood pressure cannot do any serious work, feels tired and out of sorts all the time. He may experience difficulty in breathing and suffer from dyspepsia. Hypertension, if not eliminated, may cause heart attacks or strokes or other disability conditions such as detachment of the retina.

Causes: The most important causes of hypertension are stress and a faulty style of living. People who are usually tense suffer from high blood pressure, especially when under stress. If the stress continues for a long period, the pressure may become permanently raised and may not become even after removal of the stress. An irregular life style, smoking and an excessive intake of intoxicants, tea, coffee, cola drinks, refined foods, destroy the natural pace of life. The expulsion of waste and poisonous matter from the body is prevented and the arteries and the veins become slack. Hardening of the arteries, obesity, diabetes and severe constipation also lead to hypertension. Other causes of high blood pressure are excessive intake of painkillers, common table salt, food allergies, and eating a high fat, low fibre diet, processed foods deficient in essential nutrients.

The kidneys play an important role in controlling blood pressure through secretion of rennin, a natural chemical. If increased rennin is secreted by the kidneys, more salts are retained in the body, which leads to an increase in the volume of circulating blood and consequently to an increase in the blood pressure. Repeated infections and inflammation in the kidneys can also give rise to hypertension.

Cure: The modern medical treatment of high blood pressure is highly unscientific as it brings down the pressure by drugs without making any effort to remove the underlying causes. Drugs may temporarily reduce blood pressure, but they do not cure the condition and are harmful in the ultimate analysis. All drugs against hypertension without exception, are toxic and have distressing side effects. The safest way to cure hypertension is to remove the real cause. The natural way of dealing with it is to eliminate the poisons from the system which cause it. Persons with high blood pressure should always follow a well-balanced routine of proper diet, exercise and rest. Diet is of primary importance. Meat and eggs cause the blood pressure to rise more than any other food. The pressure is lowered and blood clotting diminished by partaking of a higher fruit content, lower protein and non-flesh diet. A natural diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, instead of a traditional diet, is helpful in getting rid of the poisons from the body. A hypertension patient should start the process of healing by living on an exclusive fruit-diet for at least a week, and take fruits at five-hourly intervals thrice in the day. Oranges, apples, pears, mangoes, guava, pineapples, raspberry, and watermelon are the best diet in such cases. Bananas and jackfruit should not be taken. Milk may be taken after a week of ‘fruits only’ diet. The milk should be fresh and should be boiled only once. The patient can be permitted cereals in his food after two weeks.

Vegetables are also good for the patient of hypertension. They should preferably be taken raw. If they are cooked, it should be ensured that their natural juices are not burnt in the process of cooking. Vegetables like cucumber, carrot, tomatoes, onion, radish, cabbage and spinach are best taken in their raw form. They may be cut into small pieces and the juice of a lemon added to them so as to make them more palatable.

Garlic is regarded as one of the most effective remedies to lower blood pressure. The pressure and tension are reduced because it has the power to ease the spasms of the small arteries. Garlic also slows the pulse and modifies the heart rhythm besides relieving the symptoms of dizziness, numbness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive tract. The average dosage should be two to three capsules a day to make a dent in the blood pressure. Indian gooseberry (amla) is another effective food remedy for high blood pressure. A tablespoonful each of fresh amla juice and honey mixed together should be taken every morning in this condition. Lemon is also regarded as a valuable food to control high blood pressure. It is a rich source of vitamin P which is found both in the juice and peel of the fruit. This vitamin is essential for preventing capillary fragility.

Watermelon is another valuable safeguard against high blood pressure. It was proved in recent experiments that a substance extracted from watermelon seeds has a definite action in dilating the blood vessels, which results in lowering the blood pressure.

Recent studies have revealed an important link between dietary calcium and potassium and hypertension. Researchers have found that people who take potassium-rich diets have a low incidence of hypertension even if they do not control their salt-intake. They have also found that people with hypertension do not seem to get much calcium in the form of dairy products. The two essential nutrients seem to help the body throw off excess sodium and are involved in important functions which control the working of the vascular system. Potassium is found in abundance in fruits and vegetables and calcium in dairy products.

Exercise plays an important role in curing hypertension. Walking is an excellent form of exercise. It helps to relieve tension, builds up the muscles and aids in the circulation of blood. As the blood pressure shows signs of abating, more exercise like bicycling, swimming, jogging should be taken. Yogic asanas such as surya namaskar, makrasana, matsyasana, vajrasana, ardhapadmasana, pavan-muktasana, shavasana, and simple pranayama like anuloma-viloma, and abdominal breathing are beneficial. All asanas should, however, be discontinued except shavasana if the blood pressure is above 200 mmHg.

Water Treatment: Prolonged neutral bath daily for an hour or so at 90 o to 95 o will be beneficial. Cold compress should be kept on the head during this bath. Other water treatments include hot foot or leg bath for 10 minutes, hot compress over the heart replacing it as bath cools down. Persons suffering from hypertension must ensure at least eight hours of restful sleep, because proper rest is an important aspect of the treatment. Most important of all, the patient must avoid over-straining, worries, tension, anger and haste. He must try to be cheerful and develop a contented mind. The natural treatment may take sometime but it is the safest and best way to get rid of this disease.

Hope this helps, Good Luck.

Steven asks…

What’s the difference between Holistic,Organic, and Natural Dog food?

I have my eyes on Diamond brand dog food and i’m considering on switching my dog from disgusting purina one to the diamond brand. Does the diamond brand have holistic, organic, and natural dog food? I looked at the diamond maitenence dog food ingredients and it said it contained by products and corn meal in it. Diamond is good because it’s not too expensive for me and their was a brand especially made for costco called kirkland signature that was made by them and I’m considering on buying that. What is it though natural, holistic, or organic?

And how long would a bag of 20lb diamond dog food last? I want to purchase 40lb, but I might opt for a 20lb bag.

Thank you. I’ve been researching into the best affordable dog food I can buy for my 13 week puppy. Because I just realized how bad purina is.

vti answers:

“Organic” is at least 95% organic in nature. It is food grown without chemical pesticides, fertilizer, hormones, antibiotics, or artificially-derived chemical additives. Also no radiation or genetic engineering allowed.

“Certified organic” is the same but with more strict guidelines and rules.

“100% organic” is 100% organic.

“Made with organic ingredients” is at least 75% organic in nature.

“Holistic” will often refer to food that is natural in form, and not processed or include processed/perverted ingredients. But this is not a term that has any strict meaning and is not regulated.

“Natural” means nothing, really. It is used often and again is not regulated.

Organic is always best, of course, and holistic foods often include organic ingredients. But ‘natural’ is pointless.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: I feed Taste of the Wild, which is not certified organic but being without grains, is a definite step in the right direction. For 33 lbs, it’s about $1.25 per pound – which, for a whole pound of food, is quite inexpensive.

My issue with regular Diamond foods is that they use many grains. Grains are not a digestible source of food, and so become nothing but filler. I highly suggest you find a grain-free food (such as Blue Buffalo Wildnerness Merrick Before Grain, EVO, TOTW, Wellness CORE, etc.), as your dog will receive more nutrients from such a food.

William asks…

What good is holistic food if the dog won’t eat it?

Everyone on here tells me to feed my dog Blue Buffalo or Natural Balance or foods in that category, but my dogs don’t like them! They do, however, love the Royal Canin or the Nutro Max. What good is feeding my dog the “best” food if they don’t like it? I mean, I don’t see anything wrong with feeding Royal Canin or Nutro. My dogs don’t have any allergies and they are very healthy. All the “best” foods have fruits and veggies in them, but do they really need all that? Dogs in the wild just ate meat! My vet says to feed my dogs whatever they enjoy. Does anyone here agree? After all, pet food companies have spent years of research formulating their foods so how can they be as bad as people on here are saying they are??

vti answers:

Evanger’s or Fromm are good foods that smell and taste great, at least I’ve never seen a dog refuse them. Also, dogs in the wild ate meat, but they would also eat grass, fruits, and bark if there wasn’t meat available, so yes all that other stuff is important to their diet too. Pet food companies don’t always use all of the good stuff either, and feeding a dog a meal that is mostly corn or corn meal is like giving a toddler mountain dew. It only lasts for a little while, and then they’ll want more (also causes more hyper dogs).

Evanger’s also has canned food. My neighbor uses it and showed it to me. There was a can of chicken drummettes. THERE WERE WHOLE CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS IN THERE! They were steam cooked, so the bones could be mushed up with your fingers and were completely edible. This is real food that dogs like and it’s good for them.

Fromm smells great, and I assume it tastes the same. It’s also less expensive than Evanger’s. Try these out.

Laura asks…

What exactly is holistic dog food?

Is it all vegetable and grain based or? I go to school with a woman that is vegan and she told me that she only feeds her dog holistic dog food because she doesn’t approve of meat. Since canines are basically carnivorous mammals, wouldn’t this actually be harmful to her dog? I told her that I’ll sometimes give my dog a piece of pork, beef, turkey, etc. as a treat and she just looked at me like I was insane.

Scam food. Dogs eat meat, plant matter to them is useless, just filler. The person you spoke to is a moron.

Looks good to me – it has things that are good for dogs in it and doesn’t have things that are bad for them (BHA, BHT, by-products, wheat)…any of those brands you listed are probably good…take a look at dogfoodanalysis.com – it’s really helpful, and this article is great at explaining common ingredients found in dog food http://www.gomestic.com/Pets/What-is-in-Your-Dogs-Food.77020
of course the ultimate test is whether or not your dog likes it 🙂

Betty asks…

Home remedies to treat kidney stones?

My mother has bi-lateral kidney stones. Other than drinking plenty of water, are there other home remedies to get rid of them? thanks

vti answers:

Home Remedies for Kidney Stones (From steadyhealth.com)

Fortunately, there is a lot you can do at home to prevent kidney stones and to lessen the severity of attacks. These home remedies for kidney stones are simple, inexpensive, and safe.

1. Drink eight glasses of water every day. Actually, the scientific evidence indicates that the benefits of drinking water kick in at about five glasses a day, but if you have kidney stones and you are not currently having an attack, it’s always best to drink as much water as you can.

2. Drink coffee, tea, wine, and beer as desired. The Harvard School of Public health has found that drinking 1 cup (240 ml) of regular or decaf coffee every day reduces the risk of kidney stones by 10%. Drinking a beer a day (more precisely, drinking 240 ml of beer a day, which is less than the average can of beer) reduces the risk of kidney stones by 21%. And drinking a glass of wine a day reduces the risk of kidney stones by 39%. Drinking more coffee, beer, or wine, however, is of no additional benefit.

3. Don’t drink juice (except lemon juice). In the same study, the Harvard School of Public Health found that drinking a cup of apple juice every day increases the risk of kidney stones by 75%, and drinking a cup or orange juice or grapefruit juice every day increases the risk of stones by 85%. Cranberry extract also raises the risk of stones, although unsweetened juice reduces it. The negative effects of fruit juices are worse when juice is the only fluid consumed at a meal.

4. Drink milk. Most kidney stones contain calcium, so it would make logical sense that consuming less calcium would lower the risk of stones. Actually, the exact opposite happens. At least in men, a low-calcium diet nearly doubles the risk of stones. Taking calcium supplements, in women, lowers the risk of stones.

5. Don’t avoid veggies. Most kidney stones contain oxalic acid, so it would seem logical to avoid fruits and vegetables that contain oxalic acid. One vegetable contains such an enormous amount of oxalic acid that kidney stone sufferers really do need to avoid it, and that vegetable is the seldom-eaten lamb’s quarters. But almonds, beet greens, bran, chocolate, rhubarb, spinach, Swiss chard, strawberries, and tea, which contain less oxalic acid, have no effect on the risk of kidney stones, and in fact, they may even help prevent stones. The vitamin K in spinach and Swiss chard helps the bones absorb calcium, and keeps that calcium out of the urine.

6. Avoid eating too much meat. Only about one-third of people who get kidney stones suffer negative effects of a high-protein diet. For the kidney stone sufferers, however, a meat-free diet can be very helpful. The only way to find out if you are in that one-third is to give a vegetarian diet a try for three to four months.

Hope it can help you!

Home remedies for cough?

Im starting to have a cough and a cold, do you know some home remedies to get well as quick as possible? I cant be ill, I have to be fit before tuesday.
Thanks

vti answers:

Cough Home Remedy

Cough treatment using Grapes

Grapes are one of the most effective home remedies for the treatment of a cough. Grapes tone up the lungs and act as an expectorant, relieving a simple cold and cough in a couple of days. A cup of grape juice mixed with a teaspoon of honey is advised for cough relief.
Cough treatment using Almonds

Almonds are useful for dry coughs. Seven kernels should be soaked in water overnight and the brown skin removed. They should then be ground well to form a fine paste. A quantity of twenty grams each of butter and sugar should then be added to the paste. This paste should be taken in the morning and evening.
Cough treatment using Onion

The use of raw onion is valuable in a cough. This vegetable should be chopped fine and the juice extracted from it. One teaspoon of the juice should then be mixed with one teaspoon of honey and kept for four or five hours-it will make an excellent cough syrup and should be taken twice daily. Onions are also useful in removing phelgm. A medium-sized onion should be crushed, the juice of one lemon added to it, and then one cup of boiling water poured on it. A teaspoon of honey can be added for taste. This remedy should be taken two or three times a day.
Cough treatment using Turmeric

The root of the turmeric plant is useful in a dry cough. The root should he roasted and powdered. This powder should be taken in three gram doses twice daily, in the morning and evening.
Cough treatment using Belleric Myroblan

The herb belleric myroblan is a household remedy for a cough. A mixture comprising two grams of the pulp of the fruit, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of long pepper, and 2 teaspoons of honey should be administered for the treatment of this condition twice daily. The dried fruit covered with wheat flour and roasted , is another popular remedy for cough condition.
Cough treatment using Raisins

A sauce prepared from raisins is also useful in a cough. This sauce is prepared by grinding 100 gm of raisins with water. About 100 gm of sugar should be mixed with it and the mixture heated. When the mixture acquires a sauce-like consistency, it should be preserved. Twenty grams should be taken at bedtime daily.
Cough treatment using Aniseed

Aniseed is another effective remedy for a hard dry cough with difficult expectoration. It breaks up the mucus. A tea made from this spice should be taken regularly for treating this condition.

home remedy for constipation?pl z answer!?

any home remedy for constipation.this makes me feel so bad.pl z help me with your answer.

vti answers:

For constipation, medication is only a very temporary solution if it works. Often you get side effects.

Wheat germ and wheat bran are very high fiber foods that often help for constipation.

Constipation can cause anal fissures, hemorrhoids and also some far more serious problems as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22rectal+bleeding%22&fr=ush-ans
.
You probably need to improve your diet as you seem to have a constipation problem.

For constipation, castor oil is very good for a one-off remedy as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22castor+oil+for+constipation%22&fr=ush-ans but it is unsuitable for regular use.

For constipation, suppositories, laxatives, fiber supplements and enemas are all totally unnecessary if you eat the right foods and avoid the wrong foods.

All fruit and vegetables in very large amounts are laxative.

You need to permanently change your diet or you are likely to get colon cancer.

Constipation can make you extremely unwell and can lead to colon cancer as it causes a build up of carcinogenic toxins in the system.

The intake of foods such as milk, cheese, white rice, white flour and red meat should be restricted, because they tend to contribute to constipation.

Any food that has had the fiber stripped out, the nutrients processed out or slows down the digestion is a constipation culprit. Here’s a list of foods shown to cause constipation problems:

•Meats, especially fatty meats, red meat and processed meats,

•Dairy Products, such as cheese, ice cream and whole milk,

•Fast Foods – burgers, French fries and other fried foods, pizza, etc.,

•Refined grains, like white rice or any refined white flour products,

•Highly starchy foods – white potatoes, corn and all refined grains,

•Pastries and other high sugar products, such as cakes, cookies and pies,

•Deep-fried foods, chips and other foods that are high in bad fats.

You can see lots more in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22natural+ways+to+relieve+constipation%22&fr=ush-ans which tells you “Natural Ways to Relieve Constipation” and the right foods to eat.

How can I help my dog loose weight?

My dog is going to be 7 in march and he is overweight. The vet says that he needs to loose about 8 lbs more. How can I help him loose the weight without over doing it on the exercise. His joints aren’t the best. He is allergic to wheat so he only gets a specific kind of dog food and no people food. He goes on two walks a day already that will usually equal out to 2 miles a day.

vti answers:

If he is allergic to wheat then feed him either the Wellness Senior formula or Eagle Pack Holistic Select Senior. Both those foods are made with holistic human grade ingredients. None contain any wheat, corn, or by-products. The Senior formulas are less fattening and they have higher levels of glucosamine and condritan for his joints. Plus both those formulas don’t contain any unnecessary fillers in the food.

Mandy asks…

What do you feed your dog?

vti answers:

I feed my adult dogs Wellness Fish and Sweet potato dry food and Wellness 95% Salmon. I feed my puppies Eagle Pack Holistic Select Small breed puppy/Adult formula and Wellness puppy dry food and i also feed them Eagle Pack Holistic Select puppy canned food. I also feed my dogs left over table Scraps and i cook them Ground turkey and beef ocassionally.

William asks…

What Is The Most Nutritious Dog Food out there?

A couple days ago I was shocked to learn all the junk that goes into some Brands and Ive been trying to do a little research but I dont really understand The Ingredient labels, what is supposed to be there and not? I have 2 Mini Pins and I want to feed them the best. Help….If you know.

vti answers:

I was shocked too! I would go holistic. I found Orijen to be great, but many others swear by Canidea. Other good brands are Innova, Nutro,Natural Balance,NU vet Plus, & Holistic Select. Stay away from corn meal, which in crap food is the main ingredient. Go for a food with fresh meat or meal as the 1st ingredient, has plenty of veggies and botanicals and no fillers like beet pulp. Watch out for a grain listed as the 2nd & 3rd ingredient. Alot of companies will split the grains to make it look like there is more meat than there actually is. For example there will be 2 different kinds of corn- corn and corn meal. They just broke it up on the list, but there is more corn than meat in the food. You’ll have to do some research on your particular breed to see what they need. I have a large breed puppy so, her needs are quite different from your min pins. I found a holistic pet store in my area, they were very helpful. Good Luck.

Edit- Iams is crap, it contians meat by products (which is the junk you read about) corn meal, beet pulp, brewers dried yeast and a bunch of other things I don’t want to know about. Science Diet, Purina and everything else sold at grocery stores, walmart and even petsmart are crap. Believe me, I went and read the labels. You might have to order the good stuff online if you don’t have a holistic pet store around. I don’t care how many thumbs down I get, you should really look this stuff up. You’ll be glad you did. My pup was on Iams before I learned about all the junk.

Carol asks…

What puppy food would you recommend?

When I got my puppy she was on diamond pet food which is apparently very hard to find so I will need to change her food once it runs out and I’m not sure what is the best puppy food to get her? I thought about beneful but I’ve heard it is actually very bad – what would you recommend and why?

vti answers:

The foods I highly recommend are…

Wellness, Core
Eagle pack holistic select
Innova, Evo
Azmira
Canidae
Merrick
All the foods listed above are all made with Human grade ingredients. None contain by-products, wheat, or corn

You are correct about Beneful being a bad food. Basically any foods you can purchase from a grocery store are all Horrible and serve NO nutritional value to your dog.

Other food you should stay clear of is
Science diet
Eukanuba
Nutro
Iams
These foods used to be very good foods back in the day but not anymore. They all contain By-products, Corn, and wheat. And are loaded with fillers which will make your dog poop more. Reson being that there is nothing good in the food that your dog can absorb into the body, vitamins etc., so all the bad stuff just goes right through the dogs system causing them to poop more often.

How to grade your dog’s food:

Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of “by-product”, subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source (“meat” or “poultry”, meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain “mill run” or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. “ground brown rice”, “brewer’s rice”, “rice flour” are all the same grain), subtract 5 points
6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points
10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points
11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog is not allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points
14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog is not allergic to beef), subtract 1 point
15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point
Extra Credit:
1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points
3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points
5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points
6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points
7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points
8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points
9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count “chicken” and “chicken meal” as only one protein source, but “chicken” and “” as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point

Best food for Great Danes?

I live in Indonesia and own two Great Danes. A lot of the premium dog foods listed online are not available in Indonesia..The best options available here for Great Danes currently seem to be Avoderm, Eukanuba and Eagle Pack Holistic. Since mail ordering food is not an option I was wondering if any other Great Dane owners had any advice on which of these brands may be the best option?

vti answers:

Eagle Holistic Select is what I hope you are referring to – and this food is MUCH better than Eukanuba since Eukanuba has corn and wheat in it.

“Eagle pack” alone without the word “holistic” after it it not great food (it’s the same company, but it’s their lower end food as it too also contains corn.

Eagle Holistic Select Large Breed ingredients (the better food):

Donald asks…

Best home remedy for a cough?

I’ve had a slight cough for a couple of days and I don’t think it is a cold. What are the best home remedies to sooth or get rid of the cough?

vti answers:

Try to determine the cause first.

But common cough remedies are vinegar mixed with water, tea with honey, honey with thyme or oregano leaves.

On another note, dry air might be the cause and a simple remedy would be drinking water.

Carol asks…

What Is The Best Home Remedy Or Over The Counter?

remedy for getting rid of this chronic cough.

I had a cold a couple of weeks back and got over it quickly, but I can’t seem to shake this dry chronic coughing.

Sometimes I can’t say a full sentence without coughing and coughing.

Anyone know of a good home remedy, if not, what is the best over the counter remedy. I am drinking a lot of water.

Thanks.

vti answers:

There is an herb called mullein leaf. It is great for healing coughs and getting over bronchial infections.

There are some herbal formulas at the health food store for cughs that have mullein in it or the best would be to take it alone, either in Tincture or Capsule.

Laura asks…

What is a good home remedy for a congested throat?

My 5 year-old niece is sick. We took her to the city with us, last night. She was coughing nonstop! I got a Sunny Delight at Quick Trip and she coughed all over it. So I drank it and woke up this morning, barely breathing. What is a good home remedy?

vti answers:

Honey with lemon is good. Essential oils are good too. Peppermint, eucalyptus, doTerra’s Breathe and On Guard blends are great! Yes, hot showers, or putting a pot on the stove with water and essential oils, turning it on, putting a towel over your head and the pot, then inhaling the steam (make sure it’s not too hot).

Betty asks…

Does anyone have a good home remedy treatment for wheezing?

I have been wheezing and coughing for about the past 10 days. I have been taking an antibiotic for the past 5 days, but not sure if it’s effective. Does anyone have experience with a home remedy (steam treatment, etc) that can clear my lungs? Coughing is mostly unproductive (occasionally I have a really hard productive cough).

vti answers:

Hot herbal tea will clear it up

Heating with natural gas furnace?

I don’t have hot air at home and winter is around the corner.
My Furnace “Coleman” just blows air. I have checked the thermostat and it is looking good.
Somebody with similar problem could be sharing the remedy please?
Thank you

vti answers:

Check the pilot light to make sure it’s lit. You may need to relight it.

Make sure the thermostat is set to heat. Set the temperature higher than the actual room temperature. This will kick start your gas furnace on and will begin to warm your home.

Also check the emergency switch to make sure that it is on.

Check your fuse box to see if any circuit breakers are flipped the wrong way or to make sure a fuse hasn’t blown. Reset the circuit breaker or change the fuse if need be.

Make sure the furnace is turned on. Look for the power button.

Reset the blower motor. The motor may have overheated, so wait a few minutes and try resetting it again if the motor does not start up.

Check the thermostat to make sure it is on and is set for at least three degrees hotter than the registered room temperature.

Sandra asks…

is there any natural remedies for heart burn and flatulence ?

i m suffering from heart burn and flatulence since last one year i tried every medicine but it only help for ashort time plzz tell me if therte any natural remedies for it.

vti answers:

There may be several factors that we don’t know about you so it is difficult to give advice that will help.

When you get heartburn, immediately drink water to flush the acid out of your esphogus. I have had a problem with this also and take Nexium. None of the other medications help. My MD said to keep pepcid OTC on hand in case I have break through heartburn.

Flatulence is most often related to diet, and sometimes to those habits that cause you to swallow air. You can begin by trying to remove the problem foods from your diet. For many people, this is a trial-and-error procedure.

•This may take some careful observation to notice what foods cause increased gas. Keep a food diary and note excess passage of gas. Any of the gas-producing foods can be removed from your diet one group at a time until you see relief. Sorbitol and fructose are common offenders, so try these first.

•If this method does not work, a more restrictive approach is to start with a very limited number of safe foods, and add one new food every 48 hours in order to determine what food or food group causes difficulty. If the offending food is found, then you can avoid eating that food or be prepared for its consequences.

•If you suspect lactose intolerance is the problem, remove all dairy foods from your diet for 10-14 days to assess the effect on flatulence (using a diary). The enzyme lactase, which aids with lactose digestion, is available in liquid and tablet form without a prescription (Lactaid, Lactrase, and Dairy Ease are familiar brand names). Adding a few drops of liquid lactase to milk before drinking it or chewing lactase tablets just before eating helps digest foods that contain lactose. Also, lactose-reduced milk and other products are available at many grocery stores (Lactaid and Dairy Ease).

•If odor is a concern, there is also some reported success with charcoal filter undergarments.

•If belching is a problem, you should avoid the behaviors that cause you to swallow air, such as chewing gum or eating hard candy. Eat slowly. Make sure your dentures fit properly if you wear them.

•In general, avoid overeating because this contributes to flatulence as well as obesity. Limit high-fat foods to reduce bloating and discomfort. Your stomach will empty faster, allowing gases to move into the small intestine

Re heartburn:
For mild or occasional symptoms, simple lifestyle modifications can be helpful.

•Avoid large meals.

•Avoid caffeine (coffee, teas, some soft drinks).

•Avoid foods or drinks that reduce pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter such as chocolate, peppermint, caffeine-containing beverages, and fatty or fried foods.

•Avoid foods that damage the esophagus such as spicy foods, citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes and tomato sauces.

•After eating, beware of activities that force acid back into your esophagus. Such activities include lifting, straining, coughing, and wearing tight clothing.

•Use gravity to your advantage. Avoid lying down within 3 hours of meals. If you suffer from nighttime heartburn, elevate the head of your bed when sleeping. Place 6-inch blocks underneath the head of the bed, or place a wedge under the mattress. Simply using more pillows under your head will not help. In fact, it may worsen the heartburn by increasing the pressure on your stomach.

•Lose weight if you are overweight.

•Stop smoking.

•Limit alcohol intake.

•Antacids such as Maalox, Mylanta, Tums, or Rolaids can also be helpful. Antacids work by neutralizing acid. They should be taken 1 hour after meals or when heartburn symptoms occur.

•Low doses of drugs that block the production of stomach acid are available over-the-counter. Some examples include cimetidine (Tagamet), ranitidine (Zantac), and famotidine (Pepcid).

What are some of the best home remedies for sinus issues during the fall season?

This is for my friend, who is suffering from severe nasal congestion and sinus pressure. He has tried the Nettie Pot with salt water but it isn’t working, and he wants to stay away from OTC medication – and he’s tried most anyway, but they still have not worked. The doctor has said he’ll need surgery which will include breaking the bridge of his nose and he’s not ready to do that. Any home remedies that you know of would be greatly appreciated!

vti answers:

Natural and holistic treatments have also been used for centuries to reduce the symptoms of sinusitis. Very often, conventional medications have harsh side effects and using more natural alternatives like herbal and homeopathic remedies are much safer and gentler for the body.

Herbal remedies are there to alleviate the symptoms by reducing inflammation and, if you still take prescription medications, also help them in curing the infection. Of course, some of them like Echinacea, help tremendously in not only giving a fillip to your immune system but also help prevent colds and shorten the duration of your cold or flu.

A highly effective herb is Quercitin which contains anti-oxidants and helps to promote healthy circulation and boosts immunity. Another carefully selected herb is Euphrasia officinalis (Eyebright) which is beneficial for good eye health. In addition, homeopathic ingredients such as Arsen alb, Nat. Mur. And Kali mur. Help to maintain the skin and nervous system as well as liver health.

Home remedies for a bad ear infection?

I have had bad head aches for three days with my right ear killing me. I feel like the infection has moved into my sinuses and throat. No health insurance right now so im looking at home remedies to take care of it.

vti answers:

I agree with the previous responses that you should see a doctor. However, you can take a sinus medication or nasal inhaler to get your sinuses to begin draining which is usually the cause for an ear infection. Sinus medication such as Sudafed will help alleviate the pain in your ear. A nasal inhaler will also help with the drainage. Drinking lots of water will help you also as it keeps you hydrated as well as helps with a sore throat.

Michael asks…

how to prepare a home remedy for sinus related problems?

vti answers:

HI Afshan

Here are some ideas to hea the issue.

You need to take a look at your diet and eliminate all the mucous forming/thickening foods or drinks. Milk, citrus, spicy foods, wheat, cheese, etc. Are usually the culprits. Try eliminating them from your diet for a few days. Be sure to drink a gallon of filtered water a day as well.

More options:
* Grapefruit Seed Extract — your sinus infection may disappear after a couple of days of grapefruit seed extract. We like the drops, but be forewarned — this tastes terrible!! Also, never take it on an empty stomach (especially first thing in the morning).
* Potassium supplements — dries up mucous.
* Drink apple cider vinegar throughout the day in large glasses of water (ACV thins mucous).
* Run a hot shower run onto your face (forehead and nose) and then clear all the mucous from sinuses. Do this several times a day.

You should see improvement within a day or two.

Along with drinking organic apple cider vinegar (Braggs is best), HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you also oil pull twice a day. In case you didn’t know, Oil pulling is that fabulous ancient remedy from India that consists of swishing sesame or sunflower oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes.

Best of health to you

Thomas asks…

Home remedy for clearing out your sinuses?

I really do not like medications OTC or prescribed but as always when I have a cold my sinuses get all stuffed up and well frankly it hurts -_-

Anyone have any home remedies that actually work and are not overly disgusting? (last one someone told me involved snorting warm salt water and blowing it back out my nose….)

vti answers:

Boil some water and pour it in a bowl. Then add eucalyptus drops(maybe about 10-20)in the hot water, get a towel and put your head above the bowl, inhaling the hot vapors. Be careful though, let the water cool down to the point where you can tolerate the hot steam and hang a towel around your head to trap the hot steam into your face. Dpending on the severity of your sinus infection you might have to repeat this procedure. If your sinus infections hurt then you have,m in all likeli hood, a serious inflammation going on.
To prevent sinus infections it is best to build up the immune system with probiotics and Vitamin C, you can also add seaweed because seaweed has vitamins, minerals, and trace elements which also help build up the immune system….good luck

Mark asks…

Do I have a Sinus Infection?

it started out with a headache…then led to a sore throat, but my lower throat, talking doesnt hurt too much, just swallowing does. the last 2 days i’ve had a fever, idk the temp. i just know i was hotter than normal. i feel very drained energy-wise, could this be a sinus infection perhaps?

or something else?

vti answers:

I could be a sinus infection or a cold.
You can try a saline rinse (you can also you the rinse to gargle with to help the throat)
I would also take some tylenol for the temp.
