Sandy asks…

Anxiety!!!?

Basically, I use to have anxiety and like a month ago I had an attack. I didn’t know it would be anxiety but sure enough i went to the doctor she said I have it. She told me these 2 techinques ( counting to 10, visualize a place) but it doesn’t help. Now I think its not bad, its stupid, etc. but when i get it, it takes over me. I just want to get it over with, so I could go to camp and not to panic always.

Hey buddy. There are a few things you can do to relieve the symptoms of stress and anxiety and reduce its affects on your body and immune system. …..to better deal with the daily helping of dramas we are all exposed to ♥

Eat more foods rich in magnesium ~ magnesium is known as the antistress mineral and will help you deal with stressy situations and just the daily grind of life better.

Foods rich in magnesium are ~ leafy and green vegies, nuts and seeds, wholegrain cereals and breads and cold water fishes such as tuna, sardines, salmon and whiting……….. The EFA’s (essential fatty acids) in the cold water fishes do a brilliant job for me for equalising my moods and stress levels, i try to eat some description of fish each day….. But each person is different and you need to find your own level.

Magnesium is needed in the body for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and of course for heart health. Foods rich in magnesium will also aide in eliminating constipation by increasing the production of hydrochloric acid in the tummy and thus assisting in digestion………… Magnesium will also cure an acid tummy.

A deficiency in vitamin B12 will produce symptoms such as chest pains and heart palpitations, headaches and migraines, numbness and tingling and prickling sensations in the outer extremities, dizzy spells, fainting and loss of balance, excessive sweating, excessive urination and dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, fatigue and exhaustion, stress and depression, insomnia and constipation, irritability and moodiness and an inability to think clearly ….Quite scary actually if you don’t realise the vitamin factor.

If you are lactose intolerant or vegetarian then it is really important that you supplement your diet with a multi B complex tablet on a daily basis.

Take a multi B complex supplement on a daily basis. The B complex of vitamins is needed to support a healthy nervous, immune and digestive system and will help you enormously in dealing with stress.

They are a water soluble complex and as such our bodies can neither store or produce them, therefore we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer the side affects.

When we are placed under added stress such as work responsibilities, relationship dramas, new house, sickness, school studies the first group of vitamins to be used up will be the B complex and in these situations we need to adjust our intake accordingly…… Simply take another B complex tablet when you are stressed, as they are water soluble any excess that your body doesn’t need will simply be excreted in your urine….. The B complex relies on calcium and vitamin D to be effectively assimilated so if you aren’t getting enough calcium and vitamin D naturally take a calcium supplement containing vitamin D3.

Get a supplement that includes all the B’s ie ~ B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 as they all work synergistically (as a group)…. Don’t buy any of the B complex of vitamins individually, but rather as a whole complex of vitamins unless told to do so by a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath.

Drink loads of fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

Water is imperative to life. Without water your body will have a terrible time breathing, digesting food, transporting nutrients, lubricating your joint sockets etc.etc.etc.etc……… Nothing substitutes for water. Your body needs at least 2 – 3 litres of water daily to function efficiently.

Also, try to cut back on drinks such as coffee, tea, alcohol, sodas and soft drinks (if you drink any of them) which will all do great job of dehydrating you and of robbing you of your precious B complex of vitamins… . Ie: just 1 can of soda or soft drink will make your body peesh out up to 12 cups of water !!! 1 cup of coffee will make your body peesh out about 2 cups of water ……….. Read the book by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D…. “Your body’s many cries for water”…… An astounding and scary and very true read.

Other things that could be robbing you of your precious B complex of vitamins are :- eating too much protein, most otc cold medicines actually, alcohol, eating too much tinned food, antiobiotics ,antidepressants, penicillin, prednisone and aspirin, laxatives and diuretics, the oral contraceptive and eoestrogen supplementation .

Quite a handfull of information here …….. Sorry it’s a bit long winded but you need to know all this.

Get out in the fresh air and sunshine (vitamin D) and exercise as this will naturally raise the levels of serotonin in your brain and just make you feel fine ……….. Hey, even if its a walk in the park, chasing your mates around the shopping centre or even jumping in puddles when it rains, so long as it puts a smile on your dial buddy ………. Works for me ♥

I sincerely wish you the best of health & vitality buddy and hope that you at least drink more water if you aren’t already doing that♥♥♥

Charles asks…

Amino Acids supplements and anxiety?

I started taking Amino Acids supplements when I started lifting weights. I take 3 gnc 1000 pills in the morning before work. I missed a dose and I noticed a considerable amount of less stress and anxiety in my mind. Is there any research that shows this? Has anyone else heard about the connection between amino acids and anxiety?

vti answers:

I don’t think there is a corelation, you can try this “missed dose” thing again on purpose, it should not change anxiety patterns, good luck

Laura asks…

is there a natural supplement for anxiety disorder?

vti answers:

Check out GABA
Its a substance the brain naturally produces from within, though some people may produce a bit less than they need, perhaps due to nutrition deficiencies or imbalances or for any other reason.
IF you are on the Atkins diet, quit that and start having a balanced diet, including complex carbohydrates which actually help the body produce its own GABA. Certain foods will be more beneficial in helping you produce your own GABA naturally, including green tea, almonds, whole grains, brown rice, oats, etc…
You could also get supplements from health food stores.

“it makes sense to eat foods that stimulate the creation of neurotransmitters to replace those that are deficient. Since GABA is produced in the Krebs Cycle and complex carbohydrates produce glutamine that is an important part of that Cycle, and is also the precursor to GABA, then the consumption of such foods should in theory produce more GABA. In this case the theory works, and you should eat foods rich in complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, brown rice and oats as part of your diet.”

“Other foods that are high in glutamine or its precursors, glutamic acid and glutamate, include CITRUS FRUITS, BEEF LIVER, BROCCOLLI, HALIBUT fish, and LENTILS.

A useful supplement to take is L-theanine, an amino acid found in GREEN TEA, and available in supplement form. L-theanine can calm your nerves while maintaining clarity of thought. In other words it calms you down, but doesn’t make you drowsy and allows you to enjoy your day with anxiety. ”

David asks…

Best anxiety and depression supplement?

Please let me explain. I have had anxiety for the last 8 years every single day of my life. It has affected my life, have been unable to keep a steady job due to this. I have been to doctors which have prescribed me meds, but NONE have worked. They actually made me feel worse. I have tried counceling as well and prayed with every ounce of my being. I take a multivitamin (One A Day Womens). I am also suffering from severe depression as well, so it is a combination of both. Every time i attempt to work, i have a hard time focusing and comprehending what i’m doing because the anxiety is just so bad. It’s more than a matter of “trying to calm down” this is something that i deal with every single day, all day, not just certain moments or situations. So now i am hoping there is something natural out there that will help. Something that DOES NOT MAKE YOU DROWSY. I need something that i can take to start my day with. Please only recommend something you have experience with. I’m not looking for people to try to sell me stuff on here so please go elsewhere if you are targeting buyers. This is my life here and this is a serious question. My last resort, since i have tried everything else and nothing has worked. Would appreciate all the recommendations from your personal experiences. Thank You!

This is from an article that will help you:

“Anxiety and depression, sadly, are very good friends. Many anxiety sufferers tend to develop depression and there seems to be a strong link between the two conditions.

As a full time blogger about natural alternative therapies, I read dozens of ideas, causes, treatments, success stories and sad stories about anxiety and depression treatment.

Lately I realized that I can do some good with all the information I find daily, and make a list of little known causes and solutions, found by real people all around the world – And share it with my readers.

I hope you will find some new information that could become the light at the end of the anxiety and depression tunnel.

Anxiety and Depression Solutions – By Real People

Check your thyroid – Hypothyroidism, for example, often has numerous associated mental symptoms. People suffering from hypothyroidism often report feeling like they cannot cope, life is simply too much, and start withdrawing from society. They often feel an amazing depression relief after treating this underlying cause. If you want to check your self for under active thyroid, check your body temperature with a thermometer, the second you wake up in the morning. It’s important to stay still while doing this. Test yourself for 5 days in a row. If the reading is consistently 97.6 degrees Fahrenheit or lower you may have an under active thyroid and you should consult with your physician.
Check for intestinal parasites – People suffering from intestinal parasites often report feeling like the world is coming to an end. Who knows? Maybe your constant depression is caused by these little creatures that can be quite easily destroyed!
Check your Vitamin D levels– Vitamin D has a strong effect on brain function. You can buy a natural source of vitamin D – like Natural Fish Oil Anxiety and Depression – Little Known Causes and Solutions for Depression and Anxiety Disorder and Fermented Cod Liver Oil Anxiety and Depression – Little Known Causes and Solutions for Depression and Anxiety Disorder. There are many positive testimonials about the amazing effects fermented cod liver oil on depression. The cheapest source is Vitamin D until today – Is of course some sunshine!
Adrenal Fatigue and Gluten Allergies – I found a significant bunch of people who discovered that the reason for their depression and anxiety is adrenal fatigue or gluten allergies. Both can be checked by your doctor.
Valerian Root – Some people swear by this natural herb. The most recommended brand was GNC Herbal Plus® Standardized Valerian Root Anxiety and Depression – Little Known Causes and Solutions for Depression and Anxiety Disorder. It is 500mg per capsule, 0.8% valerenic acids per 4mg. You can take one capsule when you feel an anxiety or panic attack coming; the results for some people are fantastic.

Mark asks…

will taking a calcium supplement reduce anxiety?

will taking a calcium supplement that says it’s for sore throats, stomach burn etc; help reduce anxiety. I heard that calcium does.

vti answers:

A balanced diet will surely help to reduce your anxiety. Everybody is different, so, you should consult your doctor about whether or not you need to take more calcium, maybe you do. Calcium is really essential for your body. Outside its function in bone, it plays other important ones: in secreting hormones and enzymes and regulating their activity, it is used to send messages throughout the nervous system, it is involved in blood clotting and it aids in blood vessel and muscle contraction and expansion, it also contributes to normal heart rhythm.
