Your Questions About Natural Remedies

Betty asks…

Do you have any home remedies for a sore throat?

I’m trying different things. I’ve had a sore throat for awhile now. So do you know any home remedies? Thank you!

vti answers:

Boil two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in 1 1/2 litres of water for 30 mins… Strain and drink the liquid.
Another one I know is drinking milk with turmeric powder in.
You can buy both these things from the supermarket.

Home remedies for a very sore throat?

I’ve already tried gargling with warm salt water and drinking tea with honey and lemon, but my throat is still killing me! I can’t take any medicine as I am pregnant. Does anyone else have any other home remedies for a sore throat? Thanks!

vti answers:

Pregnancy does not preclude the use of all medications though of course as a mother we do everything we can to protect our unborn child. Having had four children, I tried to bear in mind that being ill also affected the child I was carrying.
Most sore throats are viral but there is a lot of Strep circulating right now. There are many antibiotics that can be taken safely while pregnant, others which cannot. Your doctor can choose the correct medication and dosage for you if you have a bacterial throat infection. You can also take acetaminophen safely during pregnancy; it can be used for both pain and/or fever without fear of harm to the baby.
I recommend you speak with your OB/GYN regarding your concerns. They will be able to guide you, reassure you and if not evaluate and prescribe for you, they will work with your primary care provider in choosing the right plan of treatment.
I do hope you feel better soon, wish you an easy pregnancy and a strong, healthy baby!

James asks…

What are some good foods and liquids as well as home remedies for sore throat and cold?

Im really sick please help im 16 thank you.

vti answers:

Eat a lot of food containing vitamin C (specially fruit) this will help you find which ones:

The best liquid is probably herbal tea or freshly squeezed orange/grapefruit/lemon juice.

For sore throat try to gargle – best is to put 2-3tea spoons of salt to the water and mix it, it helps to get rid of sore throat.

And honey is really good for sore throat, just get spoon of honey and let it slowly go down your throat, it will make you feel better.

You can fight cold with onion and garlic (yes, you wont like the taste or smell but it really helps):

you can make yourself a toast with butter and then simply grate garlic (or put onion) on it and eat. This is great because there is almost 100% chance that you can always find these ingredients in every household. Believe me even if it sound terrible to eat fresh onion/garlic – it really helps to fight cold, flu etc.

Robert asks…

Do you know some at home remedies for cold/sore throat?

Please help…i just started getting a bit of a sore throat on monday morning and i thought it would go away, but it hasn’t and now i’ve developed a cold and a bit of a cough. I feel awful and i don’t want 2 be sick on Christmas. Do you know any at home remedies that will quickly cure it? if so please help!!

vti answers:

Take any appropriate medications regularly, sleep a lot, and when you’re awake, drink hot water with honey and lemon, no other bells or whistles. Normally does the trick for me. Rest is the most important component, though. Get well soon 🙂
