Thomas asks…

who has a good home remedy for sore throat and coughing?

i have heard lemon juice and honey.
or salt and water and gargle. do those really work?
any other home remedies for sore throat and coughing

vti answers:

I always use a cup of hot herbal tea with honey. That always seems to work for me. Also, warm salt water gargles can help to relieve the sore throat. Do it hourly for about a day or so and you should receive some relief. Hope this helps! 🙂

Mark asks…

Does anyone have a home remedy for sore throat?

I have sore throat, and I don’t want a cold.
Does anyone have any cures so that I could prevent from getting sick?

vti answers:

Cold Eze does seem to help some, especially if you start taking them as soon as you notice symptoms. Other than that, orange juice, or any other 100% juice that has a lot of vitamin C can help your immmune system. Drink lots of fluids, but avoid caffeinated ones like soda or tea.

Ken asks…

is there any home remedy for sore throat?

also what is the difference between a sore throat and strep throat?and what causes it? for the past few days i’ve had a scratchy throat and i just woke up with a sore one. i dont want to go to a doctor just for this. i usually wait for it to go away on its own but i want it to away faster. is it contagious? i got a 3 month old baby and i wouldnt want it to go on to her.

vti answers:

A sore throat may be caused by many things- cold, excess coughing from chronic bronchitis or asthma, dry air, etc.

Strep throat is a streptococcus infection in the throat, and manifests with a sore throat, sometimes white spots on the throat, swollen glands under the jaw, and occasionaly a sore, stiff neck. Ussually, a fever is present. It is very contagious, and may possibly lead to rheumatic heart disease if left untreated in small children.

If it is just the sore throat you wish to remedy, try a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in some warm water, with some honey, if desired. Or, simmer some onions in honey at a very low heat for a few hours, then use as a cough syrup and drizzle down the throat. Stay away from dairy products- these will just create excess mucus, and turn to acid in the stomach.

Mary asks…

Can somebody suggest a good home remedy for sore throat?

I believe that I caught a really bad flu from my classmates – they’ve all been sick lately. Anyway, I started off with only a little bit of coughing and runny nose, now my lymph gland is frigging swollen and I’ve loss my voice when I woke up this morning. I’m not on health insurance at this moment so I’d love to try out some useful home remedies before spending my $$$ on the doctor. Can somebody give me some help?

Thanks 🙂

vti answers:

Try some tea (perhaps green tea) with some honey. Also try the throat sprays (chloroseptic)…if you get the spray into the right spot, it works wonders.

David asks…

Best home remedy for sore throat?

I keep getting sore throats and i cannot find a way to help them except antibiotics, does anybody know of a home remedy to help me? thanks in advance!

vti answers:

I have a home-made formula that will REALLY HELP:

1) Boil Sprite (lemonade) with pieces of ginger
2) While boiling, half way through, add 1 teaspoon of squeezed lemon and 1 tablespoon of honey
3) Remove the ginger (if you dont like it)

Seriously, best cure for throats
