new herbal essence line question?

if i use the herbal essence “pin straight” shampoo and use the herbal essence “break off (hair strenghting)” conditioner…will my hair still go straight from the shampoo, or will it not work anymore?

vti answers:

Now, please do not use herbal essence it is so bad for your hair, and all it is it fragrence oils, and yeah it does smell good, but thats all. Did you know? There are lawsuits against herbal essence because people have there hair fallen out, i used it for two days, and then heard of the lawsuit and stoped, and now, my hair it falls out really easy just for a light tension, and its really scarying me, i recommend tresemme or therma silk, seriously do not use herbal essence, it is really bad for your hair. You can straighten you hair instead, ive been straightening my hair for like 4 years now and have no split ends, becuase i use what is called “citre shine spray laminator” and it causes all frizzy ness to go away and prevent breakages and split ends, it really is good for you, but please, if you know whats best don’t use herbal essences. All it is it fragrence oils that why it smells so good.

Donna asks…

healthy foods and fruits for skin.?

Hello,I want to know which foods or fruits are good for skin?

vti answers:

Low-Fat Dairy Products. One the most important components of skin health is vitamin A. One of the best places to get it is low-fat dairy products. In fact, experts say that the health of our skin cells is dependent on dietary vitamin A.

Nutrition expert Liz Lipski, PhD, CCN, says it’s doubly important to eat A-rich dairy foods if you have either diabetes or a thyroid condition.

“Many people who have these problems can’t convert the beta carotene to vitamin A, which is the form found in many foods that we normally associate with this vitamin, such as carrots,” says Lipski, the founder and Director of InnovativeHealing.com and the author of Digestive Wellness.

The A in dairy products, she says is “true A,” so everyone’s skin can use it.

Lipski says low-fat yogurt is not only high in vitamin A, but also acidophilus, the “live” bacteria that is good for intestinal health. Turns out, it may also have an impact on the skin.

“Anything that helps keep digestion normal, any live bacteria or enzymes, is also going to be reflected in healthy-looking skin,” says Lipski.

Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and plums. The common link between these four foods is their high antioxidant content. In a study recently published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, these four fruits weighed in with the highest “total antioxidant capacity” of any food. The benefits of these foods for healthy skin are plentiful.

Free radicals — like the kind formed from sun exposure — damage the membrane of skin cells, potentially allowing damage to the DNA of that cell,” says Heller. The antioxidants and other phytochemicals in these fruits can protect the cell, she says, so there is less chance for damage.

“When you help protect the cells from damage and disintegration, you also guard against premature aging. In this respect, these fruits may very well help keep your skin younger looking longer,” says Heller.

According to the new study, other fruits and vegetables with a “high antioxidant capacity” include artichokes, beans (the study cited black, red, and pinto), prunes, and pecans.

Salmon, Walnuts, Canola Oil, and Flax Seed. These seemingly unrelated foods all deliver essential fatty acids, and thus are key foods for healthy skin.

“Essential fatty acids are responsible for healthy cell membranes, which is not only what act as barriers to harmful things but also as the passageway for nutrients to cross in and out and for waste products to get in and out of the cell,” says Ann Yelmokas McDermott, PhD, a nutritionist at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston.

Because it is the cell membrane that also holds water in, the stronger that barrier is the better your cells can hold moisture. And that means plumper, younger looking skin.

Also, says Heller, the same inflammatory process that can harm our arteries and cause heart disease can harm skin cells. Essential fatty acids can offer protection to both.

The best-known essential fatty acids are omega 3 and omega 6, which must be in balance for good health (and good skin). Though we all seem to get enough omega 6, Heller says many people lack omega 3s. Fish, walnut, and flax seed oil are among the best sources.

Healthy Oils. These contain more than essential fatty acids. Eating good-quality oils helps keep skin lubricated and keeps it looking and feeling healthier overall, Lipski tells WebMD.

Which oils are the right oils for healthy skin? Lipski says those labeled cold pressed, expeller processed, or extra virgin are the ones to look for.

“When an oil is commercially processed, the first thing they do is add solvents and raise them to really high temperatures, then put it though five or six processes. Important nutrients are lost,” says Lipski.

By comparison, she says when oils are prepared by the cold-press or expeller process, or, in the case of olive oil, are extra virgin, preparation involves only pressing, heating, and bottling.

“You get all the nutrients that are not only good for your skin, but good for your body,” says Lipski.

Since any fat, even a healthy one, is high in calories, experts remind us that we don’t need more than about two tablespoons a day

Whole-wheat bread, muffins, and cereals; turkey, tuna and brazil nuts. The mineral selenium connects all these foods for healthy skin. Experts say selenium plays a key role in the health of skin cells. Some studies show that even skin damaged by the sun may suffer fewer consequences if selenium levels are high.

For instance, in two clinical trials, researchers at Edinburgh University showed that when levels of selenium were high, skin cells were less likely to suffer the kind of oxidative damage that can increase the risk of cancer. The results were published in 2003 in both the British Journal of Dermatology and the journal Clinical and Experimental Dermatology. And a group of French researchers foun

Introduction

Most Americans consume too many calories and not enough nutrients, according to the latest revision to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In January 2005, two federal agencies–the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture (USDA)–released the guidelines to help adults and children ages 2 and up live healthier lives.

Currently, the typical American diet is low in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and high in saturated fat, salt, and sugar. As a result, more Americans than ever are overweight, obese, and at increased risk for chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and certain cancers.

Of course old habits are hard to break, and the notion of change can seem overwhelming. But it can be done with planning and a gradual approach, says Dee Sandquist, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and manager of nutrition and diabetes at the Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash.

“Some people can improve eating habits on their own, while others need a registered dietitian to guide them through the process,” Sandquist says. You may need a dietitian if you are trying to lose weight or if you have a health condition such as osteoporosis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol , or diabetes.

Sandquist says that many people she counsels have been used to eating a certain way and never thought about what they were actually putting into their bodies. “Someone may tell me they drink six cans of regular soda every day,” she says. “When they find out there are about nine teaspoons of sugar in one can, it puts things in perspective. Then I work with the person to cut back to three cans a day, then to two and so on, and to start replacing some of the soda with healthier options.”

Others are eating a lot of food between mid-day and bedtime because they skip breakfast, Sandquist says. Another common scenario is when someone has grown up thinking that meat should be the focus of every meal. “We may start by having the person try eating two-thirds of the meat they would normally eat, and then decreasing the portion little by little,” Sandquist says. Cutting portion size limits calories. So does eating lean cuts of meat and using lower-fat methods of preparation such as broiling.

Sandquist says that when people strive for more balance in their diets, they tend to enjoy mixing up their food choices. “A lot of times, they’ve been eating the same things over and over. So when they start trying new foods, they find out what they’ve been missing.”

Barbara Schneeman, Ph.D., director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Nutritional Products, Labeling, and Dietary Supplements, encourages consumers to make smart food choices from every food group. “The Nutrition Facts label is an important tool that gives guidance for making these choices,” she says. The label shows how high or low a food is in various nutrients.

Experts say that once you start using the label to compare products, you’ll find there is flexibility in creating a balanced diet and enjoying a variety of foods in moderation. For example, you could eat a favorite food that’s higher in fat for breakfast and have lower-fat foods for lunch and dinner. You could have a full-fat dip on a low-fat cracker. “What matters is how all the food works together,” Sandquist says.

Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public Health. “We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong motivators of change,” says Willet. “The more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. We’d rather people made changes early and prevent health problems in the first place.”

Thomas asks…

My 9th month shiba inu puppy likes to eat my cat’s food. Is that ok let her eat?

Is there any difference between cat’s and dog’s food?

vti answers:

Dog food is for dogs – cat food is for cats –
A common problem in homes that have both cats and dogs centers around the food issue and which species should eat which food. Unlike many cats that are finicky, in general, dogs truly love their mealtimes and puppies will eat almost anything. If you have cat food lying around, most puppies and many dogs can’t resist it and will eat the cat’s food. Dogs love to eat cat food because they love the higher protein, higher calorie content and because they can get away with it if it’s just lying around. Although the occasional theft of some cat food probably won’t seriously harm your dog and usually the main consequence is some diarrhea or loose stools, try not to let these accidents happen. Cat food is formulated for a cat’s metabolism and dog food is made for dogs. A dog that eats a steady diet of cat food will almost certainly gain too much weight and will miss out on nutrients that it needs from its own food. Cats are carnivores and dogs are omnivores (meat and plant eaters) so cat food is missing the ‘plant’ nutrients that are present in dog food.

On the opposite side of the scale, although many cats are finicky and many of them won’t bother eating dog food, some will. The occasional time it happens it’s probably not a big deal but you would not want to let it happen often. In particular, cat food has taurine which cats need to stay healthy. Dog food has no taurine so a cat eating dog food instead of its own food is obviously missing taurine in its diet. When cats are deprived of taurine for an extended period they can develop heart problems and other serious health issues.

Especially in households where cats and dogs are left alone for many hours without supervision, there is almost certainly going to be some food theft from either the cat or the dog. Usually the dog wins though and eats loads of cat food. The dog gets too fat and the cat gets too skinny and ill from lack of nutrition. The solution for not allowing your dog to eat cat food and vice versa is to deny them access to each other’s food. The harder problem will be to restrict the dog from eating cat food. If you own your own home or feel like purchasing a door for your apartment, you can install a cat flap on a standard sized door. This cat flap will usually be big enough for the cat but too small for the dog to pass through. This will be one of the best solutions possible. Another alternative might be separating the cat and the dog during the day if you have a basement for example. Although this will solve the food problem, some cats and dogs like to hang out together and they won’t be able to do that in this situation. You could create an enclosure for the cat’s food bowl by using a VERY sturdy cardboard box (probably not recommended for big strong dogs that will destroy the enclosure to get to the food) and then creating an opening large enough for your cat but not your dog. Of course you could create that same enclosure out of scrap wood and that would work. Since cats are great jumpers, you could simply put the food high enough so that the cat can get at it but the dog can’t. This solution is good for younger cats but may not be so good for older cats that have trouble with jumping. Finally, most cats don’t eat dry food quickly but many tend to eat wet food quickly. Under your direct supervision, twice a day you could try feeding your cat half of its daily ration.

If your cat likes dog food, simply don’t leave food out for your dog all day. Dogs are normally fast eaters and you can divide their daily portion into two or three portions just like the example above. Then while watching the action, make sure your dogs eats all the food and take it away if he/she leaves any over. Your dog should quickly learn to eat all the food.

Health and education factors in Russia?

vti answers:

The decline in health is attributable in part to such environmental and social factors as air and water pollution, contamination (largely from nuclear accidents or improper disposal of radioactive materials), overcrowded living conditions, inadequate nutrition, alcoholism, and smoking, and in part to a lack of modern medical equipment and technology. In 1991 life expectancy in Russia was 74.3 years for females and 63.5 years for males. By 1994 the figure for males was 57.3 years. The male-to-female ratio in the population reflects the higher male mortality rate and the enduring impact of losing millions more males than females in World War II. (In all age-groups below thirty-five, there are more males than females.) In 1993 the overall ratio was 884 males per 1,000 females, and experts predicted that the figure for males would decline to around 875 by the year 2005 (see Demographic Conditions, ch. 3).

By the mid-1990s, Russia’s death rate had reached its highest peacetime level in the twentieth century. Curable infectious diseases such as diphtheria and measles have reached epidemic levels unseen since the Bolshevik Revolution, and the rates of tuberculosis, cancer, and heart disease are the highest of any industrialized country.

In 1993 the incidence of a number of infectious diseases increased significantly over the previous year: tuberculosis by 1.25 times, brucellosis by 1.9 times, diphtheria by 3.9 times, and syphilis by 2.6 times (see table 14, Appendix). In 1995 the Russian health system was overwhelmed by the return of epidemic diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever, even as it faced chronic staff and equipment shortages. In the winter of 1995-96, Russia suffered its most severe epidemic of influenza in decades. An estimated 1 million people were infected in Moscow alone, and numerous schools and public institutions were closed to prevent the spread of the disease. Experts attributed the virulence of the epidemic to the generally low level of resistance of much of the Russian population, the result of poor overall health care and stressful economic conditions. Other causes were the uneven availability of influenza shots and the population’s general belief that injections enhance rather than decrease an individual’s chances of becoming ill.

Between 1980 and 1989, cancer and its complications increased from 15 percent to 18 percent among causes of death. In 1990 the most common types of cancer were breast cancer, cancer of the stomach and liver, and skin cancer. In the last years of the Soviet Union, about 680,000 new cases were diagnosed annually. The causes of cancer are varied and complex, but contributing factors in Russia are heavy smoking, radiation exposure, and contact with pervasive toxic emissions and chemicals in soil, food, and water. According to the deputy minister of environmental protection and natural resources, about 50 percent of all cancer-related illnesses can be attributed to environmental factors. Heavy-manufacturing regions show especially high rates; in Noril’sk, the metallurgical center located above the Arctic Circle, the incidence of lung cancer among males is the highest in the world (see Environmental Conditions, ch. 3).

Russia’s birthrate has shown an increasingly steep decline in the 1990s, amounting to what one commentator calls “the quiet suicide of a nation.” For example, the annual birthrate for the first six months of 1992 was 11.2 per 1,000 population–a 12 percent decline from the same period in the previous year. In some areas, the rate was even lower, for instance, 9.2 in St. Petersburg and 8.2 in the Moscow region.

Russia’s Ministry of Health reported in June 1991 that the country had a negative rate of population change for the first time since records have been kept. The declining number of births is attributed in part to a drop in fertility, which presumably stems from a combination of physiological and environmental factors, and in part to women’s reluctance to bear children in a time of economic uncertainty.

What is called a “Junk Food” & what is the origin?

@@@Always Good::– Rava Uppuma??? A junk food??? Come on,, it is hot and delicious !!!!

vti answers:

The term “junk food” is used to describe food which is low in nutritional value, with a comparatively high caloric value. Many people try to avoid or limit junk food in their diets, out of concerns that such food is not healthy, despite the fact that numerous food manufacturers produce a range of products which could be considered junk food. Nutritionists, doctors, and other health advocates often work to educate people about junk food, encouraging them to eat well balanced diets which contain a high proportion of healthy foods.

This term was coined in 1972 by advocates at the Center for Science in the Public Interest who wanted to raise public attention about the issue of foods with a high caloric value and a low nutritional value. For manufacturers, producing such foods has great appeal, as they tend to be cheap to make and easy to handle. They also have an extended shelf life, making them easy for stores to stock and sell.

Foods which fall under the umbrella of “junk food” vary, depending on a number of factors. Snack foods like chips, candies, and so forth are generally universally agreed upon as junk food, and some people also lump fast food like hamburgers, pizza, and fries into the junk food category. In some communities, ethnic takeaway food like gyros, Indian curries, tacos, fish and chips, and so on is also considered to be junk food.

Often, the foods which someone considers to be junk food are very telling. Definitions of “junk food” tend to hinge on someone’s class and social status. People with more money tend to have a broader definition of junk food, causing some people to accuse them of class snobbery, while lower-income individuals may recognize less foods as junk food. Especially in the case of ethnic foods, a classification as “junk food” could be perceived as rather offensive, given that such foods have been prepared and consumed for centuries, and many are actually quite healthy.

As a general rule, no matter what one classifies as junk food, such foods are perfectly safe to eat, as long as they are integrated into a well balanced diet. There’s nothing wrong with having some potato chips now and then, but consuming a diet based primarily on junk food is a cause for concern. Because junk food often lacks useful vitamins and minerals, people who eat an exclusive diet of junk food may suffer from nutritional deficiencies which could cause health problems, and they may experience other physical issues like indigestion as a consequence of eating a large amount of junk food.

In some regions of the world, advertising of junk food is carefully controlled and monitored, out of the concern that such foods often appeal to children. Advertisers may be specifically prohibited from making advertising which targets children, for example, and any claims made about the nutritional benefit of foods are typically closely evaluated to determine how factual they are.

Daniel asks…

Need someone into holistic medicine to answer these questions for me…?

What type of holistic medicine?
How and why did you get into it?

Need to write a paper for school. Thanks!!

vti answers:

Any type of medicine can be practiced holistically or with a reductionist slant.
Holistically means considering the cause of the symptoms and not just the symptoms.
It really can be like peeling the layers of an onion though.

For example, take lower back pain. This is often thought of as musculoskeletal but a lot of lower back pain has an internal organ component referring the pain into the lower back. The connective tissue and fascia can also be involved. In this picture you also consider the fluids involved. The lymphatics, venous drainage and arterial supply are all going to be affected by tissue tightening. Of course this will have affects on these systems too.
These tissues are all innervated by the central nervous system which has influence from the Sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Now these are systems I can influence with osteopathic manual treatment although not totally. What about what I can’t influence?

Should I just ignore them and pretend they don’t exist?

Should I do what I can and hope these other things I can’t change will sort themselves out with what I can do?

Should I just give up and think “its all hopeless!”

The second answer is correct. Although I can’t change everything. Often what I can change is enough to start the bodies process of healing itself off. All I need to do is help the body heal itself.

Thats holistic.

Reductionist is symptom management not addressing the underlying cause. Sometimes however that is all one can do.
Hypothyroidism is a good example. I know of no reliable way to stop the thyroid being dysfunctional and produce the correct amount of thyroxine.
So what to do?
In the Abscence of a properly working thyroid supplementing thyroxine will give that patient a good quality of life.

Lisa asks…

Do I stand a chance for UC Davis? ?

Basically, I want to get into UC Davis or San Diego. At the greatest UCLA. Can you guys tell me based on my stuff I have if i can do it?
SAT 1 score was 2080 . I got 730 CR , 680 Math, 670 Writing.
My GPA is around 3.69 Unweighted.
The big problem I see is that I am only taking 1 AP and 1 Honors Course in my junior year!… 🙁
Oh . and I am a second degree black belt and I am in a big professional dance company for the extracurricular.

Is it likely ? can you predict for me percentage-wise how likely it is?

vti answers:

UCD and UCSD do not grade holistically- i.e., they don’t care that what classes you took or what SAT IIs, just the score you got. They give you points for factors like being president or vice president of a club, having a total family income less than 60,000, GPA, SAT scores, and more, add all the points you qualify for up, and if your total is higher than a certain number, you are in. Each UC has a different formula, and each has a different cut off score.

What I’m trying to say is that UC admissions are almost a game where you compete for points. But what classes you took, as long as they were a-g, do not matter. They only matter to UCB and UCLA, the only UCs that grade holistically.

Hope that helps!

Do the manifold interpretations of ambiguous images on the perceptual level offer a PROOF of the esemplastic.?

Thank you for your comments.

Yaoi, my friend – once again, and amazingly enough (or perhaps NOT), you have managed to COMPLETELY miss THE POINT! … It seems like what I speak in “Tongue” you hear in “Klingon”. 🙂

vti answers:

That some people are extremely gifted in perceiving holistically – despite the abstract nature and/or disjointed details of what is being perceived – is what is miraculous about the human animal.

Is this simply related to our visual imaging process? I am not so sure. Your example is probably more indicative of our holographic processing/storage of emotionally charged experiences that DISTORT our perception rather than holistic thinking.

A close friend of mine has a gift for seeing holistically into any disfunctional group system no matter the purpose (building aircraft, operating a hospital, performing a musical composition, producing a film) and seeing the ‘end goal’ is able to reorder the interaction and group dynamic to accomplish the impossible. How does he see the completed whole while others throw up their hands? It is a specialized gift.

And recently in a discussion with a repairman who had rebuilt an appliance for me, he described how he had always had the ability to mechanically see the ‘working’ whole – even when presented with a broken machine he had never before encountered; and as a further example, explained how upon always waking to any unusual (nearly inaudible) mechanical sound during the night, could determine the source and visualize the whole system, instantly determining its potential for needing or not needing immediate attention and fall back to sleep in seconds.

Humans are astounding.

Come to witness springs new hope, born of leaves decaying.
And as new life will come from death,
Love will come at leisure.
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure,
Gives in return a wonderous yearn for promise almost seen.
Live hand in hand and together we’ll stand, On

vti answers:

All of that sounds nice, but…

We still have to live in the “real” world, which is a world of day-to-day fluctuations in experience.

Nobody can keep up that “mood of awe and love and wonder” all the time. To live and succeed in the real world and fly, one must first have one’s feet planted firmly on the ground, and learn how to land, or abort the take-off, or even retire and be content with commercial passenger jet flight (hopefully 1st Class) and in dreams you don’t get any enormous dental and medical bills, and in the dream world, you don’t pay any taxes, or have to work an ungodly 8 hours a day, and…

That’s why we cannot “be whole holistically” in reality.

vti answers:

Holistically…..

Cancer is the viral invasion and the invitation of invasion of a body to a starvation of the body from it’s functional living capability. The body is made up of living thread composed of DNA and RNA interceptors which react to the stimuli put upon it. These threads are said to be open tubules that bind together, like rolled threads into string.

So, we have the invaders and the inviters of that invasion. The invaders that try to modify the RNA which allows cell replication…we are growing every minute…can allow orderly replication or disorderly replication depending on how it is instructed. Instructions come from the brain and chemical fluids in the body. Chemical fluids in the body, tubular structures that mix with the RNA and can modify it, can persuade it to replicate in error.

What happens in cancer is the replication instructions are corrupted from changes in body chemistry that the body naturally tries to keep in place, but whose process can be interferred with, if enough pressure is put upon that process.

Carcinogens, enclosed tissues cut off from oxygen, out of balance PH factors, emotional ill feelings that control the enzymes and hormones released from critical organs, poor dietary intake, abuse, intimidation, even elation at times, triggers the process of corruption.

The body has to feel revitalized every moment or have a capability to move back into that process from time to time after stresses are put upon it. The body is a stimulus absorber.

So the invitation comes from a depleted body nutrition and not feeling loved, or just feeling ignored beyond what it was intended to feel, not cuddling or touching for instance as one tries to pull through the uncertainty in their lifetime.

The invasion comes from radiation and carcinogens and the enzyme attacks from within the body as it’s cells attempt to replicate corruptably, forcing those cells to replicate “bad cells”, a virus if you will, only cancer is the virus of viruses because slowing it down requires so much special attention.

You can kill cells but chemically killing cells is only a temporary way to slow this down. The fight to live has to include compassion and passion for the person whom is being treated, their addictions detoxified gradually and yet they might not have enough time to do that as they have taken so much time to get there in the first place.

We become addicted to our poor habits of eating fat and sugar and salt, which hypoxiate or starve cells from oxygen to act healthily, and or just not touching leafy greens and wider variety of fruits and fruit skins….and not getting enough attention….emotional for women mostly…some men too.

So when your threads become entangled with toxic threads, the body has to have a way to rid itself of the toxins. A good diet of 5 to 1 leafy green vegetables to one serving of meat is necessary for emotional types, as well as resolving their emotional attention issues which can release the toxic threads from the defective strings in their body and continue to do so througout their lives. It is all intertwined.

Things like antiperspirants placed in high doses near lymph node systems under the arm pit, attacks the lymph node system there too. Air fresheners attack the lungs and pores. Smog attacks the body. Tanning attacks the body. Microwaves and cell phone signals and radio signals….all of which if low enough in power do not reflect anything dangerous, but when they are all combined with a weakenned immune system…it is like blowing a light puff of air against a person who is standing on the edge of a cliff holding on for dear life to keep from falling. That one last puff could do them in.

What many insensitive unaware humans do not realize is that we are being bombarded by attacks from envirmonmental stresses including radiation and atmospheric changes that our bodies have to react to every minute of our lives.

We have to give our bodies the best fighting chance of living by realizing our weaknesses, the weaknesses of our inherited genes, the natural allergic reactions to stimuli and we have to be prepared to defend our body against that which could hurt us. It might not hurt somebody else, but it might hurt us. Each DNA is different, each body is different. Each sensitivity is different. Each stress situation is different….even though we have many things in common.

The metastasisation of cancer from one organ to another, the travelling of the virus from one lymph node system through the body comes from stimulus also. Poor ventilation lineup, accumulating tiny dust particles in the lungs, for instance, can irritate the lung nodes thereby stimulating the cancerous virus to take the lymph node system highway and move in on the new location as well.

Biologically, the most important areas of the body to get in check is the spirit, where thoughts are processed about how we fit or don’t fit in our world, the bowels, where waste is processed, the skin, and the lungs.

Assertiveness and Forgive Affirmed Spirit communication involving grief processing through active listenning, empathy, sympathy and affirming can take care of our spirit’s concerns improving our own body’s release of healthy enzymes and hormones from our own organs.

Diet can take care of the bowels releasing and moving toxins through the body.

Keeping skin clean but not coated with chemicals and avoiding too much sun exposure can help the skin defenses maintain original composure.

Keeping the air you breath as breathable as possible away from allergic and micro powder and fume substances that all of us or your ancestry had to watch is important to maintain healthy lungs and breathing.

Just as with drug addictions, cancer victims are addicted to the way they have been living. It is a tough battle, and most of them don’t realize what they are up against. The oncologists pretty much stick to chemo and radiation, because the doctors are partly naive and don’t want to offend their patients. The doctors are politicians in the treatment with drug companies and with their patients.

Uncertainty is a stress that has to be dealt with on a daily basis by sensitive people.

You can become insensitive by doing drugs, alcohol and chemicals dependencies that will make your possibilities for a healthy relationships with another human beings impossible and, if it is in your genetics to be able to accept this lifestyle, you may be able to fend off cancer for a while, and you may be just genetically predisposed to being highly resistant to cancerous reactions. Unfortunately, the majority of us are not. That’s life.

Healing be unto you and yours and me and mine

John asks…

What are ways to get rid of a stuffy nose? Natural Home remedies?

So since the 8 grade ( now a graduate of high school) My nose has been stopped up. I think it’s pretty clear that I may have some type of Allergy infection it’s been like this since 2008. Which means for about five years or so I have not been able to breathe correctly. Sometimes my nose isn’t stuffy as bad but every since Sunday I have had a “cold like” experience with my nose being stuffy and it gets really annoying to have to need a tissue every few minutes/seconds. It also gets annoying to wake up out of your good nights sleep because you need to blow your nose and can’t breathe.

Before I go off spending hundreds of dollars on prescription medication that rarely works , or thousands of dollars on a surgery to get rid of this infection what are some natural home remedies for me to try to remove the stuffy nose in both of my nostrils?

As the weather gets colder it tends to get worse so please help me out if you can 🙁 I’m the type of person that likes to try out all possible ways before doing the extreme.

vti answers:

You could easily find Natural Remedies by searching on www.duckduckgo.com
Just type in the search: natural remedies for stuffy nose. (or whatever you need) and you may find answers like this:
Allergies and a cold/sinus have very similar symptoms.
Either ways, you could “At Your Own Risk” try some of these Natural Remedies:
**Read the information on the link below before attempting.**
1) Cayenne Pepper Tea: Boil a cup of water, or use cool water, add 1/4(one quarter) teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper Powder, if hot, let it cool a minute, then mix well and sip it till it’s all gone, or just gargle with it if you just have sore throat or if it’s too spicy to drink(less effective).
Your nose/throat/stomach will thank you soon after the third sip. Lol
2) Ginger Tea: Bring to a boil a cup of water with 6+ fresh slices of ginger, let it cool for a minute(add 1tsp of honey/optional) and sip it till it’s all gone. You may also chew/eat a slice or more,
if the pungent feeling is too strong, just add a pinch of dry Thyme.(ginger is also good for Nausea, Dizziness, Anxiety & Stress).
3) Chew/eat half clove of garlic (raw) ….. Then drink half a cup of warm water.
4) Add 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar (raw-unfiltered) to half a glass of water and drink it.
5)Eat some Cardamon seeds …..
6)Take some time to eat some Thyme …..
7)Eat some Turmeric ….
8)Eat some Aloe Vera gel ….
9) ….Repeat any of the above every 6 to 12 hrs. Even after symptoms have subsided. (health boost).
The above remedies are also helpful for acid/reflux/heartburn/gas/stuffy nose/sore throat/cold & sinus & allergies symptoms.

Donald asks…

What is the best way to relieve heartburn?

I am a type 1 diabetic and have heartburn literally every night. I took Zantac for a while and it helped but now it doesn’t. I don’t even eat foods that could trigger it. What is the best way to relieve it? Certain medicine or a home remedy?

vti answers:

I went to the Dr. A got a prescription, which you should too if it’s really bad like mine was.

Before I was able to go to the Dr. Milk helped with the burn if you puke it up at times.

Tums Suck and Taste terrible, but they stop the burn when in your throat as well. After a while they stopped working for me though.

It was rare, but once in a while warm tea would help.

That’s all I have though =/ I don’t know anything that will stop it completely.

Helen asks…

Is there a home remedy for heartburn prevention?

I have heartburn everyday. Zantac works really great but I don’t want to keep buying it forever. Is there something I can do without medicine?

vti answers:

1. Try eating five or six smaller meals a day rather than three big ones. An easy way to keep these meals small is by simply limiting your portion sizes.

2. Observe your diet: Your body might digest fats far slower than either protein or carbohydrates. The longer food sticks around in your stomach, the fuller you will feel after eating them. Unfortunately, a full stomach puts a lot of pressure against your lower esophageal sphincter – LES for short (the valve that connects your esophagus to your stomach). The extra pressure on a leaky LES will likely lead to acid reflux. Not only that, but fats are harder to digest, which means that your stomach needs to produce even more stomach acid in order to break them down.

You can read a few natural remedies here: http://www.causesandremedies.com/try-chamomile-to-soothe-away-your-heartburn/

Charles asks…

What is the best cure for acid reflux/heartburn during the third trimester?

Hi everyone, I’m 31 weeks pregnant & suffering from extremely bad heartburn/acid indigestion. It’s mainly super bad at night & I tried taking tums & Zantac for it & neither seems to work very well! Cold water seems to “cool” it down temporarily but drinking water at night is t the greatest idea for me because it’s causing more trips to the bathroom which means less sleep 🙁 does anyone have any suggestions or at home remedies for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks 🙂

vti answers:

Tums!
And even a simple acid reducer works wonders!
Also, try no to eat after 7 pm, for that cause heart-burns.

Richard asks…

Is there a home remedy good for heartburn?

I never used to get heartburn before but have been having it almost every night for the past week. Last night was just awful and it felt as if my food was in my throat and wouldnt go down. Any suggestions?

vti answers:

Baking soda dissolved in water will help to neutralize stomach acid.
Ginger is another remedy for heartburn and also nausea.
Since these symptoms are new, and are not going away, you may want to consult a dr.
Hope you feel better soon.

Sandra asks…

natural remedy for thinning hair?

hey there! is there any natural way (like applying olive oil ,etc)of stimulating new thick hair growth in balding/thinning hair areas? pls help!

vti answers:

This NATURAL, safe remedy is the ONLY ONE I’ve found that truly stops loss almost straight away and also forces new growth. Massage thoroughly with olive or any natural oil – then brush vigorously using a palm held brush with stiff short bristles so you really feel it stimulating scalp (90 /100 strokes or even more each day focusing on where loss is). Brushing before you apply oil is equally OK. Will heal scalp and unplug blocked hair ducts that cause loss – they are the painful small itching spots. A little shedding and breakage may occur at first but quickly stops as brushing makes hair stronger and better anchored. It will grow fast, thicker and It will force the new growth. Initially new hairs will be weak looking and sparse. Don’t be concerned if brushing uproots them as they will re-appear even stronger. My hair has completely regrown on crown. Where receded at front regrowth was slower and sparse at first then each month it became denser. It demands perseverance week in, week out to get the same results.
Thinning, premature graying can be caused by many shampoos, hair products that contain countless hair, scalp and even health harming harsh and toxic ingredients Washing hair too frequently is another cause – removes beneficial natural oils and contributes to loss. Find “Non harmful shampoos, etc” with Google searches. Some will come up and be expensive or only available on-line so refine search by adding “low cost” and “available in stores” Find in health food stores, pharmacies and Walmart. Wish you the best. I can be emailed.

Mandy asks…

Why does the FDA seem so afraid of natural remedies?

They always seem to downplay anything natural. As if there is no way it could possibly work. They say there is no scientific evidence but yet they also say that certain products have not been evaluated by the FDA. So answer this: How do they know that there is no scientific evidence if the product has not been evaluated? And yet these harmful drugs are advertised on TV as if we have to take them or something! You cannot watch a football game without someone telling you how to enlarge you penis! “Take this for Herpies!” I don’t have herpies! Then they say it doesn’t cure herpies! well what does it do? “Side effects may include sudden death!”
Regina Wrong answer! The Japanese and Chinese live longer than we do and they base alot of their medications on herbs ect. We won’t even test to see if they work! Did you ever think about surgery? I mean it did not exist back then either! Thats hogwash I don’t think your answer explains Jack! FDA=$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

vti answers:

Because many natural remedies are bunk, sorry to say. “Natural” companies want your money too. How many advertisements for “herbal and natural” penis enlargement, breast enlargement, weight loss, etc. Do you need to see? Have you seen the law suits from those who were ripped off? And thus why those adds were pulled off the air? They simply don’t work, and since they are not regulated and purified, they may even put people’s lives at risk. How many times have you seen a “natual” product say “no side effects”?

Well, if a product is to actually have any kind of benefit, side effects are a potential risk.

I’m not a fan of Big Pharma pushing drugs. But what some “natural” companies are doing is no better. If natural cures are so good, why did so many people die prior to modern medicine. When you get people claiming that you can cure all kinds of fatal and serious diseases with a simple herb (and zero proof or results), they have gone too far.

There are risks to any treatment if it actually works. If alternative medicine wants to be supported, then those companies must prove their product works and is safe like everyone else. The FDA is not a fan because a) most companies who produce natural products are not marketing them as a drug, and b) they sometimes have little evidence to back up their claims. The FDA only approves substances that have gone through Phase 3 trials.

There are published medical reports about the success of some dietary substances such as Omega 3 essential fatty acid. That is proven. It’s the bogus “cure all” herbal products that you need to watch out for.

EDIT: No YOU’RE mistaken. The Chinese and Japanese have a MUCH healthier diet and lifestyle than Western people. They also have genetic protection from many diseases and seem to genetically tend to live longer. When it comes to certain non-preventable diseases that require Western medicine, those people die SOONER, because they refuse medical care. The “weak” and sick Asian people are weeded out of the gene pool, because they do not use Western medicine. So you have an overall healthier population. Combine this with the other info I gave, and you can see why Asians are generally healthier, provided they do not follow a Western diet. You are just as brainwashed by “alternative medicine” ironically. Why not go ahead and buy those $100 penis enlargement pills? When you have cancer, make sure you take vitamins, heaven forbid you see a doctor for cancer treatment.

I’m not saying we should become a nation of pill poppers, but if you need Western medicine to survive, your choices are take it or die. Alternative medicine cannot and will not be a soultion to everything. That is why most people who had health conditions died and were weeded out of the gene pool prior to modern medicine. Should we revert back to that? I don’t know…but the bottom line is that there is a place for Western and a place for alternative medicine. Alternative medicine cannot cure everything, and sometimes it helps nothing. I am not against “natual remedies”. I AM against people who are so brainwashed that they use natural remedies and let their children die of a 100% treatable with Western medicine disease.

Natural hayfever remedies?

I have hayfever and most of the over the counter remedies don’t work for me. Does anyone know of any natural alternatives?

vti answers:

The best remedies for hay fever can be found in alternative medicine; namely homeopathy.

I have personally treated and cured multiple patients suffering from different forms of hay fever and allergies.

Hayfever is part of a deep constitutional condition.
It is normally related to the sycotic miasm and the most success I have had is with Nat Sulph 6X – 3 tablets to be take 6 hourly preferably empty-stomached or 30-45 minutes before or after meals.

The above remedy is more relevant to tree pollen allergy. The other head remedies I have personally found to be most efficacious are as below:

1. Lachesis 1 M (1000) – first to be taken for 3 days; single dose – 3/4 drops in 1/4th glass of water preferably empty-stomached or 30-45 minutes before or after meals.

Then one dose after 15 days thereafter for the duration of the hay fever season.

2. Sabadilla 30 – to be taken in case you get a bout of sneezing.

Other effective remedies are there also but are aspecific to your symptoms. Feel free to write ..

Best of luck!

HELP! Allergies!!! Any natural remedies?

I am going to visit my sister in law for a week, she has 2 cats and I am allergic big time(wheezing and all) I am also a couple weeks pregnant. So my question is,does anyone know any natural remedies or anything I can take that’s safe? Thanks.

vti answers:

The best natural remedy would be to not visit. (I know, I know – thats not what you wanted to hear….)

The second best would be to make sure she has fresh linens down that have never been exposed to kitty-cats….and then you could try saline rinses*** to get the cat dander out of your nasal cavities so there is less to react to….and for goodness sakes, you could always try to have your pharmacist order you dust masks for allergens (the ones they usually carry wont usually cut it)

The only herbal remedy for allergies that I would actually suggest to most folks, I’m not going to suggest because it also influences hormones…..{hey, just because things are natural, does not mean they don’t have side effects}…and you don’t want to do that while pregnant…

Just in case you absolutely need one while you are visiting (because lets face it, its hard to sleep AND wheeze) here is the list of drugs that are classified as safe for use while pregnant – antihistamines are about a 1/4 of the way down the page. Chlortrimatron looks like the safest bet.

***Any drug store will carry saline nasal spray, or you could try a neti pot (google it)

Congratulations

Is there any natural remedies to fight bipolar disorders or panick atacks?

anibody knows about a natural remedies or techniches to fight a panick atack or bipolar disorders?

vti answers:

Kava Kava is a root that I have taken, in capsule form, to help with panic attacks or anxious stress in general. It’s famous for it’s ability to calm your nerves and promote a feeling of calmness and well-being. You have to make sure to take a dosage that’s appropriate for you (I recommend asking someone who works in the supplements section of a good natural/health food store). Http://www.raysahelian.com/kava.html

Valerian root is also available in capsules, and works as a mild sedative and sleep aid. I also found this to be effective, particularly when anxiety was causing insomnia. This stuff is very stinky! I recommend keeping it in a Ziploc bag 🙂 Check this out for more info: http://www.1001herbs.com/valerian/

Both Kava and Valerian should be used with caution if you are planning on driving. You should try taking them at a time when you do not have to drive (or watch little kids, or other important stuff like that), so you can see how much of an effect they have on you.

Bach’s flower essence remedies makes a product called “Bach’s Rescue Remedy”. I found that this stuff is awesome for bringing me down from an anxiety/panic state, but doesn’t create the somewhat altered-state that Kava and Valerian can cause.

Good luck in your quest! I had to go through a lot of horrible experiences with prescription drugs before I discovered some more natural things that worked for me (in addition to my Rx meds). These are the ones that worked for me, and have worked for other people I have recommended them to.

Home Remedies for Constipation

1. Constipation treatment via Bael Fruit

Normally all fruits, except banana and jackfruit, are useful in the treatment of constipation. Certain fruits are, however, more useful. Bael fruit is regarded as the finest of all laxatives. It cleans and tones up the bowels. Its normal use for two or three months throws out even the old accumulated faecal matter. It must be rather taken in its original form and before dinner. About sixty grams of the fruit are enough for an adult.

2. Constipation treatment with Pear

Pears are useful in the treatment of constipation. Patients suffering from chronic constipation must accept an exclusive diet of this fruit or it’s juice for a few days, but in normal cases, a medium-sized pear taken after dinner or with breakfast will have the desired effect.

3. Constipation treatment with Guava

Guava is another helpful remedy for constipation. When eaten with seeds, it provides roughage to the diet and helps in the standard evacuation of the bowels. One or two guavas should be taken daily.

4. Constipation treatment with Grapes

Grapes have proved very helpful in overcoming constipation. The combination of the properties of the cellulose, sugar, and organic acid in grapes build them a laxative food. Their field of action is not inadequate to clearing the bowels only. They also tone up the stomach and intestines and reduce the most chronic constipation. One must take at least 350 gm of this fruit daily to achieve the desired results. When fresh grapes are not obtainable, raisins, soaked in water, can be used. Raisins must be soaked for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. This will make them swell up to the original size of the grapes. They must be eaten early in the morning, along with the water in which they have been soaked.

5. Constipation treatment with Orange

Orange is also beneficial in the constipation treatment. Taking one or two oranges at bedtime and again on increasing in the morning is an excellent way of stimulating the bowels. The all-purpose stimulating influence of orange juice stimulates peristaltic activity and helps prevent the accumulation of food residue in the colon.

6. Constipation treatment using Papaya and Figs

Other fruits specific for constipation are papaya and figs. Partly a medium-sized papaya should be eaten at breakfast for it to act as a laxative. Four or five dry figs must be soaked overnight in a little water and eaten in the morning.

7. Constipation treatment with Spinach

Among the vegetables, spinach has been measured to be the most vital food for the entire digestive tract from time immemorial. Raw spinach holds the finest organic material for the cleansing, reconstruction, and regeneration of the intestinal tract. Raw spinach juice-100 ml, mixed with an identical quantity of water and taken twice daily, will cure the most aggravated cases of constipation in a few days.

8. Constipation treatment by means of Other Remedies

Half a lime, squeezed is a glass of hot water, with half a teaspoon of salt is also an effective medicine for constipation. Drinking water, which has been kept overnight in a copper vessel, first thing in the morning, brings superior results. Linseed (alse) is extremely useful in complicated cases of constipation. A teaspoon of linseed swallowed with water before each meal offers both roughage and lubrication.

Donna asks…

Home remedies for constipation?

Any good home remedies to relief constipation ? Thanks

vti answers:

Hello Lukas,

Most types of constipation are due to some degree of dehydration. It may be that the level of water you are drinking is not enough, even though you may believe it is enough.

It may also be that you are taking something which is diuretic in nature, meaning something that causes you to lose water, i.e. Through urinating more, thus losing more water.
In warm climates, more water is needed.

Fiber is required in order for the intestines to move stool along properly, so ensuring you get enough fiber in your diet can be one additional, and also a valid remedy. Green leafy vegetables such as “Greens” and cabbage are examples. Also wholemeal bread, meaning bread that contains as much of the original fiber as possible. Genuine wholemeal bread weighs more than fake “wholemeal”. A genuine wholemeal loaf is also harder to squeeze.

You should consider enemas and purgatives as only a temporary workaround, since continued use would make you dependant on them.

You could try the herb “Fringetree” (Chionanthus virginicus).
The part of this plant which is used is the root bark.
Preparation and dosage:
Infusion: Pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoonsfuls of the bark and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. This should be drunk three times a day.
“… Through its action of releasing bile it acts as a gentle and effective laxative.”

Also, consider the following.

Put something like a bowl upside down on the floor of the toilet and put your feet on it so you are raised up somewhat. (This means however, that you will not be able to urinate at the same time as passing stool.) This raises you up to a better squatting position and you will find it easier to pass stool.

Read a book or magazine to divert your attention while waiting to pass stool, since the body prefers to evacuate stool in a somewhat automated manner.

I hope you feel better soon.

Regards,

Robert.

home remedy for a child with constipation?

She’s 5. I won’t give her a laxitive or anything simular…the last time cost us a mattress 🙁 She hates prunes and apple juice just cramps her up. I have chugging water and staying away from dairy. Can anyone add to that?

vti answers:

The only “home remedy” I know is the one which has been practised in my family for generations – the soapstick suppository. Hold off from this unless she’s in pain and/or hasn’t “done” for 3 or 4 days. If that’s the case – cut off a sliver of worn down ivory or glycerine soap, put plenty of vaseline on (and in) her butt and push the soap all the way in there. It has a combined lubricant and irritant (potentially strong irritant) effect – and it’s almost guaranteed to make her do a smelly in half an hour!

Home remedies for constipation ?

Any home remedies for constipation?

vti answers:

You need to permanently change your diet or you are likely to get colon cancer.

Constipation can make you extremely unwell and can lead to colon cancer as it causes a build up of carcinogenic toxins in the system.

Perhaps red meat is the culprit as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22red+meat%22+%2B+constipation&fr=ush-ans as it can take up to 3 days to go through the system.

The intake of foods such as milk, cheese, white rice, white flour and red meat should be restricted, because they tend to contribute to constipation.

Any food that has had the fiber stripped out, the nutrients processed out or slows down the digestion is a constipation culprit. Here’s a list of foods shown to cause constipation problems:

•Meats, especially fatty meats, red meat and processed meats,

•Dairy Products, such as cheese, ice cream and whole milk,

•Fast Foods – burgers, French fries and other fried foods, pizza, etc.,

•Refined grains, like white rice or any refined white flour products,

•Highly starchy foods – white potatoes, corn and all refined grains,

•Pastries and other high sugar products, such as cakes, cookies and pies,

•Deep-fried foods, chips and other foods that are high in bad fats.

You can see lots more in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22how+to+relieve+constipation+naturally%22&fr=ush-ans which tells you “How to Relieve Constipation Naturally”.

natural weight loss supplements?

no bashers.

Just replies from people who have used something and have experience to share. Also tell us where you got it and roughly how much it was if its not a grocery store item.
I already take a multivitamin with all those in it and I’m not losing any weight, even with exercise.

vti answers:

I have found that when dealing with natural weight loss supplements not all products will work for all people. Women need to non-stimulant weight loss products at 8-12 weeks for you will noticed any significant weight loss. I would make sure that you are drink plenty of water. The usual recommendation is to take your body weight and divide it by two. The result is the minimum number of ounces of water that you should consume per day.The product that I have found some good success with is called Slimirex. This natural weight loss supplement does contain a mild stimulant. I have listed the ingredients below.
Lipofuzion™ – The core of Slimirex®’s amazing weight management formula is a proprietary blend of special ingredients collectively known as Lipofuzion™. The four components of Lipofuzion™ enhance the effectiveness of the entire Slimirex® formula to help suppress the appetite, promote weight loss, and increase the metabolism. The exact proportion of each ingredient in Lipofuzion™ is a trade secret, but it’s no secret that they work!

Slimaluma™ – This herb has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine as an appetite suppressant and weight loss promoter.

Super Citrimax® – This herbal extract is combined with chromium and other minerals and herbs into a potent clinical strength formula. It helps to curb the appetite while helping to promote the substance in the brain, which helps maintain a positive mood. Citrimax® also includes a natural body energizer.

Advantra Z® – This extract of a natural Chinese citrus plant has the unique ability to help fire up your body to promote fat burning. It also functions to help energize your body while helping to support the creation of lean body and muscle mass.

7-Keto – This naturally occurring substance is responsible for breaking down the hormone DHEA (the hormone of youth). 7-Keto triggers enzyme in the body to help turn up the process in the body that burns fat, while boosting mental wellbeing. 7-Keto levels can decline with age so it is important to keep the levels up.

Gugulipid – This resin from a tree has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine for over 2,600 years!

Mark asks…

Why the hell would you buy weight loss supplements?

Americans are looking for the quick fat loss drug, so why would you buy something that requires diet and exercise? Diet and exercise is how you lose weight anyway and the supplement is only good for those people already doing that. I constantly see comments about fatties taking the drug and not losing weight. Duh! It doesn’t work with a double Bacon cheeseburger!

vti answers:

*Firstly, you should not skip your breakfast, whatever the case may be. Because it is the vital meal of your whole day and the rate of metabolism slows down if you don’t have it. In addition to this, you will be so hungry at your lunchtime that you will end up eating more food than required. So make sure you have a proper and healthy breakfast before leaving your house.
*Secondly, don’t engross yourself in other things like, reading books or watching TV while eating your food. If you don’t concentrate in your food, you will take more than necessary which is not good for your health as well as your weight. You must enjoy your food with your friends or your family but keep an eye on your food too.
*Thirdly, you should chew your food at least 35 times before eating, because the researchers have found out that you will consume fewer calories if you chew for longer time. Moreover, it helps you to digest your food faster as well as restrict the size of your portion and thus you can lose your weight.
*Fruits are just incomparable in losing your weight. They help to detoxify your body if you take them in empty stomach. Moreover, they will give you a huge amount of energy to exercise. It is believed that eating fruits about 30 minutes before any full meal helps in digesting the food quickly.
*Drink water as much as you can as it is very important for a healthy body and it creases the metabolic rate. But you must avoid drinking water in between your meals, since the liquid decreases the rate of digestion. It is advised to have water at least 15 minutes before or after your meal.
*Losing weight can be a difficult process for nearly everyone, so it’s not uncommon that people will ask: how can I lose weight and how can I lose it quickly? Some people are more blessed than others when it comes to their metabolism. A faster metabolism does make losing weight easier, but that’s not to say that someone with a slow metabolism can’t lose weight. In fact, someone with a slow metabolism can lose those extra pounds, and provided that they follow the tips that we suggest, they can lose those pounds quickly. So stop using your sluggish metabolism as an excuse, a barrier between you and your goals.
There are a few rules to follow to ensure that you will lose weight quickly. If you only choose to follow one of these rules, your success will be limited. On the other hand, if you follow all of these rules, you will lose weight rapidly, and just as importantly, you will keep the weight off.

Losing Weight Rule #1
Stay well hydrated. Hydration is one of the most important parts of losing weight and being healthier overall. Drinking lots of water ensures that your stomach is full, and it tricks your body into thinking that you are not hungry. It is important to hydrate primarily with water for a number of reasons. Water is natural and inexpensive, and it is calorie free

Losing Weight Rule #2
Exercise! Exercising is a fun and effective way of losing weight. If you are having trouble losing weight, or if you are losing weight, but not quickly, try adding in exercise. You will be sure to notice a difference if you add exercise to your healthy lifestyle. Not only does it help with weight loss, it also improves cardiovascular health greatly.Rule #1 comes into play here, too; staying hydrated is important if you are exercising because your workouts will suffer if you do not properly hydrate before, during, and after the workout. Staying hydrated allows you to perform at the highest level possible, ensuring that you burn the maximum amount of calories during your workout. Did you know that a 30-minute run can burn up to 500 calories?

Losing Weight Rule #3
Have a diet plan. You can do all the exercise in the world, but if you aren’t eating properly, and eating proper-sized portions, you won’t achieve any success. Weight loss ultimately comes down to calories in vs. Calories out; that is, the number of calories that you consume (take in) must be less than the number of calories that you burn (put out) in order for weight loss to occur. Keep a food diary so that you understand what you are eating. Buy a food scale that gives you an accurate estimate of portion sizes. Choose a diet plan that gives you a good mix of proteins and complex carbohydrates. Avoid empty calories.

So, with those rules and tips, you have everything you need to lose weight fast. Losing weight can be difficult, but it is far from impossible, especially with this knowledge. No matter what weight you have been all your life, you can lose weight, and you will lose weight provided that you follow these steps. So if you’ve made it this far, then congratulations; you’ve taken the first step towards losing weight fast.
Not everyone has a speedy metabolism. It’s like being born with perfect pitch or an ability to draw. But everyone can lose weight and keep it off. It just takes discipline and desire. Good luck.

Sandy asks…

Weight loss supplements?

I am by no means fat, I’m just chubby and its mainly in my stomach. I was wondering if anybody has tried any weight loss supplements from gnc or other places. I know exercising is a must and I definitely plan on exercising a lot. I just want a good supplement that will help boost my weight loss as I plan to keep it off by exercising. What about alli? Or any other ones that anyone has had good results from.

vti answers:

Don’t take pills; they are dangerous and don’t address the underlying cause.

Balance and moderation are the keys. Calories don’t matter, nor do carbs or fat. Just eat good and simple foods. Think of the quality of food you put in your body like the quality of lumber you put in your house. We are constantly rebuilding our bodies, and we must use good quality ingredients. This means organic and natural. I know it’s more expensive, but this is important. Plus, organics have more nutrients, so your body will be more satisfied (and less hungry).

We have been misinformed about food and as a result, our food choices are usually best at selling products and supplements and worst at promoting true health.

If we eat like the Asians, we will look like the Asians (thin). When they eat like us, they look like us (not thin). We should learn from what they have learned: eat simple grains (white rice, other grains, less bread and pasta), eat mostly vegetables (a wide variety), mostly cooked, mostly local, some fruit, no dairy. Too much or too little of any one thing is not a good thing. Vegetarians almost have it right, but we should get a little (2 ounces twice a week) of mammal meat. A little chicken and fish are good too, but all meats should be thought of as a condiment rather than a main dish.

The best way to lose weight and keep it off is through balance and moderation. Practice this is your exercises as well. Shoot for losing 1-3 pounds/week. Oh and drink green tea with most meals and avoid cold and raw foods and drinks. Cold and raw take our energy and time to warm and cook, so don’t have too much salad. Avoid sugar substitutes and refined sugar.

This is all explained in the book “The Asian diet: simple secrets for eating right losing weight and being well” by Bussell. I also recommend “In defense of food” by Pollan. It explains how the discussion of food has evolved to constituents and we don’t think about whole foods anymore.

Acupuncture can also help to curb cravings.

Weight loss?

Does anyone know any weight loss supplements or any products or homemade recieps that i could use and mostly on the abdominal area? If any items are meant to be bought please make it affordable for i am on a budget. Please help!

vti answers:

If you eat only when you feel hungry, chances are you’ll have less trouble reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. Most people are not in touch with their hunger signals, though, and instead eat in response to triggers such as stress, anxiety and boredom.

To successfully lose weight, you’ve got to get in touch with the powerful forces that shape your eating habits — how you think and feel about food and why you eat when you’re not hungry.

Here are four steps that can help.
Step 1: Know your habits

To become aware of your eating habits, keep track of situations in which you find yourself craving unhealthy foods. Write them down in a notebook or on your weekly menus. Keep a list of what, when and why you eat for a few days. See if any relationships or patterns emerge. Ask yourself if you tend to eat when you’re bored, angry, tired, anxious, stressed, depressed or socially pressured. If you do, try these tips:

* Before eating anything, ask yourself if you’re really hungry. If the answer is no, consider having a glass of water. You may find that you’re just thirsty.
* Learn to refuse gracefully when people offer food that doesn’t fit into your menu plan such as treats at coffee breaks.
* Do something to distract yourself from your desire to eat — call a friend or run an errand.
* Direct emotional energy from stress or anger outward. Think about taking a walk, sorting through files, or cleaning out a cluttered drawer or closet. The urge to eat will pass.
* If you find that you absolutely can’t find an alternative strategy, don’t try to restrain yourself too much — that may lead to bringing. In that case, eat some vegetables or a piece of fruit. You won’t have to feel guilty, and it may satisfy your craving.

Step 2: Change gradually

When you’ve identified an eating habit that you’d like to change, remember that gradual changes work best. Consider this example. Marty works as a customer service manager for a retail department store. Her job is often stressful. She prides herself on meeting the needs of customers and sometimes finds herself juggling the needs of customers with the needs of management. When she feels overwhelmed by stress, she walks to the vending machine for a high-fat, high-calorie snack.

Marty recognized that this was one eating habit preventing her from reaching a healthy weight. She decided to start dealing with on-the-job stress by taking a brisk, 10-minute walk at break time and by eating fruit for snacks.

Like Marty, you, too, can prevent thoughts and feelings about food from standing in the way of your weight-loss program. Choose one area at a time and be specific about how you’re going to change. When you feel you’ve successfully changed one eating habit, work on another.
Step 3: Plan ahead

Your old eating habits may be so ingrained that you’re not aware of them. Mentally rehearsing healthier habits can help. Imagine this: You’re at a graduation party. The buffet table is packed with all of your favorite treats. Now imagine this: You take a small portion of a few items from the buffet table, leaving space between them on your plate, or you take only fresh fruits and vegetables. Mentally rehearse this plan until you’re more likely to remember it — and do it — the next time you need it most.
Step 4: Think positively

Don’t dwell on what you’re giving up to reach a healthy weight. Concentrate instead on what you’re gaining. Instead of thinking, “I really miss eating a donut at breakfast,” tell yourself, “I feel a lot better when I eat oatmeal and fresh fruit in the morning.”

Believe it or not, the process of making changes to your eating habits can be enjoyable and the health benefits will soon become evident.

Vitamin and Mineral Supplement Question’s?

I have been doing some research regarding deficiency’s associated with Vaplroic Acid, and from what I have read there are vitamins and minerals that can be taken to reduce these deficiency’s. In particular:
Selenium — 100-200mcg daily.
L-Carnitine — 500-1000mg three times daily.
Vitamin D — 600 IU daily.
Calcium — 200mg daily.
Vitamin B12 — 30mcg daily.
Vitamin B6 — a lower dose??
Possibly a supplement of Biotin.

I would just like to know if anybody has/is taking valproic acid and has experienced side effects such as fatigue, shakiness, hard time getting to sleep, and staying asleep, blurry vision, head ache, and has been taking the medication for more then 6 months. I am at a dosage of 250mg twice daily of Valproic Acid treating Epilepsy, having one serious seizure almost a year ago, 17 years old, 5’7, 150 lbs, and run 5km 3 days a week. If anyone has knowledge of these supplements and if they may help with these side effects i would like to know. As well are these supplement doses reasonable??, and anything else to consider with these supplements such what to mix, what not to mix?? times of day?
Another question about melatonin, is it safe to use on Valproic Acid and will it help with my sleep?
Thanks!

Richard asks…

In the movie Jack whats his aging disease called?

I had just finished watching the movie Jack with Robin Williams. Jack ages 4 times as normal. When he is ten he looks forty. Is this disease or syndrome real? If so what is the name of it.

vti answers:

I’m not sure but I found this…

The movie begins during a Halloween party with Karen Powell (Diane Lane) going into labor, and being rushed to the hospital. Although the delivery is successful, the baby is premature, born after only ten weeks of pregnancy, is diagnosed with an exaggerated form of Werner syndrome, an aging disease.

According to his doctor, as this very rare autosomal recessive disorder progresses, Jack Powell (Robin Williams) will age at a rate four times than normal children due to his internal clock that seems to be developing faster.

Laura asks…

Old age and Heart disease, how are they related?

i guess we all know that old age means more chance of developing heart disease. But is there a more specific reason what it is so?
i need an answer fast for my bio project

vti answers:

As the body ages the vessels which carry blood throughout the body lose some of their elasticity therefore contributing to hardening of the arteries and heart disease. Also, what we put into our bodies chemically plays a big role in the arteies and other body organs not functioning well.

Helen asks…

What food is good for anti aging?

Salmon, tomatoes, green tea, any more significant other diets good for anti aging?

vti answers:

Anti-aging food can enhance your health, energy, mental fitness and
slow many of the changes that are marks of growing old.

Tomatoes. A major source of the antioxidant lycopene that reduces the
risk of cancer by 40% — notably prostate, lung and stomach cancers —
and increases cancer survival. Tomato eaters function better mentally
in old age and suffer half as much heart disease. Concentrated tomato
sauces have 5 times more lycopene than fresh tomatoes, and canned
tomatoes have three times more than fresh.

Olive Oil. Shown to help reduce death from heart disease and cancer.
Recent research shows that heart-attack survivors on a Mediterranean
diet had half the death rates of those on an ordinary low-fat diet.
Olive oil is also high in antioxidant activity.

Red Grapes, including red grape juice and red wine. Red grapes have
moderate antioxidant power, while purple grape juice has four times
more antioxidant activity than orange or tomato juice. Red wine (not
white) has about the same antioxidant capacity as purple grape juice
or tea. French research show that drinking red wine in moderation
increases longevity, but excessive drinking has the opposite effect,
so limit to two glasses per day. Drink grape juice.

Garlic. German researchers have found that garlic is packed with
antioxidants know to help fend off cancer, heart disease and all-over
aging, and prolong cancer survival time. Let crushed garlic “rest”
about 10 minutes before cooking to preserve disease-fighting agents.

Spinach. Second among vegetables only to garlic in antioxidant
capacity and is also rich in folic acid, which helps fight cancer,
heart disease and mental disorders. New University of Kentucky
research shows folic acid may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Eat
both raw and steamed for best benefit.

Whole grains. A University of Minnesota study suggests the more
whole grains you eat, the lower your odds of death by 15%. Whole
grains contain anticancer agents and help stabilize blood sugar and
insulin, which may promote longevity. Whole-grain “dark” breads,
cereals such as All Bran, and “old fashioned” oatmeal are an excellent
source.

Salmon, and other fatty fish. Contains high amounts of omega-3 fat
that performs miracles throughout the body, fighting virtually every
chronic disease known. Without it, your brain can’t think, your heart
can’t beat, your arteries clog, and joints become inflamed. You need
one ounce a day, or two servings of salmon, sardines, mackerel,
herring or tuna per week.

Nuts. Eating more than 5 ounces a week can cut heart-attack deaths
in women by 40% and help prevent deadly irregular heart beats in men a
Harvard University study found. Almonds and walnuts lower blood
cholesterol. Most of the fat in nuts is the good-type monounsaturated
and/or omega-3. Unsalted nuts are best.

Blueberries. High in antioxidants, Tufts University researchers say a
half-cup of blueberries a day can retard aging and can block brain
changes leading to decline and even reverse failing memory.
Tea. Green or black tea has equal antioxidant benefit. One cup a day
can cut heart disease risk in half Harvard researchers found. Make
from loose tea or tea bags, instant and bottled tea has little effect

Donna asks…

Do I have an aging disease? I have been aging extremely fast?

I’m 23, but I look early 30’s. The condition of my facial skin looks extremely bad, it is red 100% of the time, my skin flakes continuously, I have deep wrinkles around my mouth and forehead, and plenty of wrinkles (not as deep as around my mouth, but clearly visible to anyone) all around my eyes, which are far reaching and spread over half of my face. Everyone I meet are always shocked when I tell them i’m only 23, they always think i’m much, much older.

But anyway, the main reason why I ask if I have an aging disease, is because this only started not very long ago, a few months after I turned 20(or first signs anyway). I’ll just say what my appearance of age was.
1. At 20, most people would guess 16/17. An elderly couple assumed I was 15 when I asked for a beer.

2. At 21, people began to guess around 19/20. By this time, wrinkles were forming around my mouth & forehead.

3. At 22, I looked mid 20’s. This was when my facial skin began to go bright red, wrinkles around my eyes formed a few months before turning 22, and wrinkles on my forehead and mouth seriously deepened.

4. Now at 23, it looks horrifyingly bad. All wrinkles have gotten much deeper, there is a large amount of fat volume loss under my cheeks, making them look very much sunk in, fat volume loss under my eyes is starting to appear, the wrinkles around my eyes to clearly visible to anyone now, and they stretch completely right across my face, and my skin is starting to look kind of dead looking.

So what kind of aging disease do I have? i’m pretty sure I have one, considering how fast i’ve been aging.
I do not drink alcohol, I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs, I don’t spend much time in the sun. I don’t eat unhealthy. The only thing i’m not getting much of, is exercise. But i’m still fairly energetic, and can run for a minimum of 10 minutes without stopping, and I can do up to 60 consecutive push ups. So i’m not completely unfit. And I don’t use any cosmetic products whatsoever. I did try it in 2011 for a month, to try and stop the aging, and just did normal routine stuff other people do. This is also when the redness and flaking appeared(wrinkles around eyes were already there before trying anything). (all I used were cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliate, (all dermalogica brand)and followed the instructions exactly. I stopped after a month, because of clear visible redness, and flaking skin)

vti answers:

You don’t have an ‘aging disease’. Progeria isn’t something that comes on at 23… It’s seen in people under about 12 and so so rare.

You likely have a skin condition… Things like facial eczema or other allergies can cause the skin to appear unduly wrinkly. That said, be careful that you aren’t being too hard on yourself as the previous post has already pointed out.

Book in to see your GP who will be able to assess whether or not you have a skin condition and provide you with some treatment or advice. If necessary, they can also refer you to a dermatologist.

Jenny asks…

At what age does gallbladder disease happen?

I’m 21 and my upper right abdomen hurts badly, I thought it might be my gallbladder, but someone told me gallbladder disease happens to older people. I need to know if anyone has had the simular problem as I do?

vti answers:

Gall bladder disease does not depend on age. I have seen many patients younger than you are, even as young as EIGHT years, who have had gall bladder surgery.

Scam. Don’t do it.

Carol asks…

Have a question about Herbalife……..?

Was wondering if anyone knows anything about Herbalife… Like if it really works or not to lose weight and keep it off??? THanks!!

vti answers:

Herbalife is not a scam or get rich quick scheme it works when you use it correctly it is scientifically based nutrition in the form of shakes and tablets, yes it is pricey to start out, if you consider a meal of about less than $3.00 expensive, it is almost everything you body needs. The products work for me and many of my friends yes some fail because they can not give up their old ways. I tried all the miracle diet pills they don’t work, the only thing that does is feeding your body what it needs and the easiest way for me to do that was Herbalife. Feel free to email me with further questions.

Ruth asks…

Does Herbalife really work?

Some of my friends’ families are taking and so is my aunt. I have seen a significant change in their appearance. They look much less rounder, lol, and it seems it definitely is working.

Though I am extremely a little skeptical on how much they charge for set of products. It’s ridiculous and it makes it seem like it’s a big scam. Well, it is since I’m sure we can all make the product ourselves. Since it’s so ”natural” and eco friendly, Im sure finding certain herbs and ingredients shouldnt be that hard.

Sigh…. I know I shouldnt see it as a key for losing weight fast. I need to completely changemy lifestyle.

Eating healthier, exercising, and maintaining a proper routine.

With that said, would herbalife protein shakes also contribute?

Also, please be honest and mention the side effects.

vti answers:

If you want honesty, then the most important thing I can tell you is to stop using crap for your information and start using good resources. Don’t read advertising..don’t even bother. And, be very careful about the information you receive in forums such as this where the info comes from random strangers of unknown credibility.

Go here –> http://search.usa.gov/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&sc=0&query=%22herballife%22&locale=en&m=&embedded=&filter=moderate&commit=Search you can read about the countless problems Herbalife is suspected of causing.

Here is just one example. Note the excerpt: “Severe hepatotoxicity following ingestion of Herbalife nutritional supplements contaminated with Bacillus subtilis.”
Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19010564

There are many more. Don’t use Herballife. It’s junk.

Here is what the US National Institute of Health warns about supplements. “Always check with your health care provider before taking a supplement, especially when combining or substituting them with other foods or medicine.”
Ref: http://ods.od.nih.gov/Health_Information/ODS_Frequently_Asked_Questions.aspx#Need

Even if you can manage to lose the fat you want to lose with your Herballife diet, what will you do to prevent the fat from returning? You can’t continue with Herbalife forever so eventually you’re going to have to confront eating real food and, if you don’t learn how to manage your eating, you’ll just regain the fat. So, why wait? What advantage can you possibly have by putting off the inevitable when it is what you should be doing right now anyway? That’s the question everyone who is on a fad diet or trying to use some dietary gimmick to lose fat has to answer. And, of course, there is no good answer.

The best diet for losing fat is the same as the best diet for building muscle which is the same as the best diet for maintaining health and body weight. In other words, everyone should be eating essentailly the same macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fiber barring special health or medical considerations because we all have essentially the same physiognomy. Here is the diet approved by the US National Institute of Health…the people your doctor listens to.

• Go here —> http://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html and calculate your BMR.
• Limit your daily caloric intake to your BMR.
• Make sure you eat only wholesome, varied, nutritious, high quality foods in 4-6 small meals per day. (THIS IS IMPORTANT)
• Keep your macronutrient ratio at 55/20/25 (%calories from carbs/fats/protein respectively) by tracking your intake.
• Track your intake here —> http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ (or Live Strong, Sparks People, etc)

If you eat your BMR in calories and no more each day, you will have enough food to properly nourish your body and all of your activity will burn fat. That means, the more you walk or run or workout, the more fat you’ll burn.

You get to make the food choices (no supplements without a doctor’s recommendation) based on culture, available foods, personal preferences, your resources, food allergies, etc. However, the words “varied”, “wholesome”, and “high quality” are important. And, you should consume your food in 4-6 daily meals with healthy snacks between such that you’re nourishing yourself every two hours when awake.

Thomas asks…

Are you an Herbalife distributor too?

What do you think can be done about Herbalife‘s reputation as a scam? How should Herbalife distribtors who are involved with “shady” business practices be punished? Does Herbalife need cleaned up? How do you deal with customers that are resistant due to negative opinions of Herbalife‘s business practices?

vti answers:

Yes I am a distributor. Herbalife itself isn’t the root of the scam reputation. It comes more from the ignorance oops opinion of the general public. Most people have been trained to believe that “a legit JOB, ie trading hours for dollars” is the only way to make money. Those distributors who may be involved in “shady” business practices will getr thier due. They make some money in the short term but will never build a solid sustainable business. Don’t worry about the person who has negative opinions, you can’t convinvce them of anything else. Just keep doing what your taught, be honest with your customers and downline and you will succeed.
