Home remedies for pink eye?

vti answers:

You cannot treat it at home if it is bacterial, you will need antibiotics to treat it. If it is viral it will go away on it’s own. But you can ease the pain by washing it gently everyday with warm water and avoid scratching the sore.

How can i get rid of a sore throat super duper FAST?!?

Please help me!
I have had a sore throat/cold for a few days but the sore throat has gotten worse.

THANK YOU in advance 🙂

vti answers:

•Tonsillitis*:

The main symptom of tonsillitis is a sore throat. More symptoms occur in most cases. Some or all of the following may be present:
• Fever
• Bad breath
• Nasal congestion and runny nose
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Red, swollen tonsils covered completely or in patches by pus
• Difficulty swallowing
• Headache, ear infections.
• Abdominal (belly) pain
• Raw, bleeding patches on the tonsils
When you have sore throat plus cold symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and coughing, the cause is most likely a virus. Viral infection of the tonsils usually goes away without treatment within 2 weeks.
TONSILS:
Tonsils are like street dogs in Ur vicinity. They are just like security guards for Ur entire body-house.
When a thief/stranger enters Ur locality to observe the surroundings to commit a crime/theft; the street dog[s] starts barking continuously cautioning U against the dangers ahead.
Similarly, much before the entry of a serious virus/bacteria into Ur body, the first organs to be affected are tonsils-which are nothing but lymph glands.
As u r aware that lymphatic system is nothing but a drainage system. If tonsils are removed surgically, it is as good as killing Ur security guards given by the God.
It is prudent and safe to see a local homoeopath for total cure.

Jenny asks…

Home remedies for a sore throat?

Are there any home remedies for a sore throat, caused by allergies?
Anything other than gargling with salt water, and drinking shots of liquor with lemon and honey and hot water? I’m of drinking age, but I don’t drink.
I’m eating a piece of cinnamon candy, it’s helping to soothe my throat.

vti answers:

The traditional honey and lemon in tea really does wonders, I prefer a green tea or i make my own tea from strained ginger. At nght, I will gargle with warm salt water, which soothes the throat as well as helps to clear the sinuses. Sometimes I’ll have a hot toddie, which is tea with some liquor (I use honey tequila from mexico), to kill any bacteria that may have accumulated, but I usually only do that if I actually have a cold. A humidifier can also help at night time if you are getting a dry throat then. Running hot water in the sink, putting your head over the sink, and placing a towel over your head to hold in the steam works well for a temporary humidifying effect.

I answered your other question about where to buy eyebright and another effective formula but I did use colloidal silver in a cat’s effective eye and it got rid of the infection..do not use silver spoon with it but plastic

you may need to research if you need to dilute it with water as I cannot remember that part

there are some websites though that say it is not effective for pinkeye

If you want to try it they sell it at health food stores.

Lizzie asks…

How do you treat pink eye [any home remedies?]//IS this pink eye?

I work at a daycare, and recently this kid had to be sent home for what we thought was pink eye [his eyes were bloodshot and he couldn’t keep his hands away]. We sanitized basically everything, but when his mom came back, she said he didn’t have pink eye [we’re still unsure if it really was pink eye… but majority is saying it was]

My left eye is sort of gunky, and sort of red- it’s not itchy, but it’s irritated

Are there any basic stuff I can do to make it go away [if atleast make it go by faster?]

vti answers:

There are a lot of different kinds of pink eye: but mainly viral and bacterial. However, dry eyes, corneal abrasions, or even ocular allergies can sometimes be confused with “pink eye.” The official word for pink eye is conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the clear covering that goes over the white part of your eye.

Your best bet is to go to your optometrist and see what kind of “pink eye” you have. There’s no way to really diagnose it over Yahoo Answers. Just FYI–viral conjunctivitis can be HIGHLY contagious for the first week or so; I would recommend getting it checked out before you head back to work with a bunch of little kids.

Donna asks…

pink eye home remedy?

vti answers:

Soak a wash rag in warm/hot water… Not hot enough to scold your skin… Ring out the extra water and place the wash rag over your eyes, making sure its still warm. This will begin to draw out the infection… After the wash rag begins to get cold rinse it out and do it again.

Lizzie asks…

What to feed my lab puppy?

This is not a question, im just writing this for people like me to see when they have questions about puppy food.

After buying a lab puppy at 7 weeks, i was very worried how id feed her, because i kept reading about milk intolerance, luckily for a week, i continued giving her cerelac which the breeder had been giving, then i boldly gave her cooked chicken, mashed with cooked rice, which she ate with no signs of indigestion, i also started giving boiled eggs. one day i saw her greedily eating amuliya milk powder, then i thought there are children allergic to gluten in wheat which they should avoid, doess this mean all children in the world should be denied wheat products which includes bread, pizzas etc. similarly i figured that only those with lactose intolerence should avoid milk, and started giving her this milk powered although in dilute form,

My next worry while surfing the web was about the cheap food pedigree,as i am from India where advanced puppy food is not available and as i cannot buy chicken often, i thought the best i could do was buy this “ilflavored” product and substitute it for chicken whenever i could not buy i noticed that my puppy could not even chew the pellets, i then soaked it with water and after mixing it with rice my puppy ate well, this write up is for those indians who cannot buy expensive puppy food, i also give oats mixed with milk, now shes a bouncy, playful and contented creature keen on focusing her eyes on me with kove and trust, i have written this so that anyone else with the difficulty that i faced first may find this helpful.

Michael asks…

How to get rid of a sore throat fast?

I need to get rid of a sore throat fast. Home remedies please.

vti answers:

Dissolve a teaspoon of salt and a sprinkle of baking soda in a pint of warm water and gargle for a minimum of 30 seconds. If you do this every hour or so you’ll find it soothing. Well, all but the salty flavour, as I tend to go a little overboard with the salt myself, but a teaspoon per pint of water is just enough salt to mimic the body’s own natural saline content. And if you’re concerned about your sodium intake, don’t swallow, just spit it out. I prefer to make up a jar and pour from it only what you need each time.

A spoonful to bourbon or whiskey to a glass of warm water to gargle will help numb a sore throat.

Honey or lemon juice in a hot tea or hot water sipped throughout the day is soothing as well.

Ruth asks…

How do I get rid of this sore throat fast?

It’s 4 days until Christmas and I woke up this morning and my throat was a little sore. We always go up to my Grandmas on Christmas and spend the night there. My mom probably wont let me if I am sick. Plus, I don’t want to be sick on Christmas so i decided to heal my sore throat before it even started so does anyone have any home remedies and recipes to get rid of this sore throat? Help me out please.

vti answers:

Hi,
I know how miserable it is to have a sore throat! Here are some home remedies I found over the internet:
This link http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/sore_throat.html has a TON of things you can do. The Lemon and Honey this one REALLY works. I had a sore throat this morning after I drank it my throat is just fine. I felt better as soon as I had one sip!
All so what my mom says to do is get a cup of hot water (As hot as you can handle) Poor in as much salt as you can endure, And gargle, do this several times a day.
I hope you have a good Christmas, And that I helped.
Bye! 😛
P.S. Please give me feed back if I am chosen best answer!

David asks…

How to cure a persistent sore throat that does not include a cough or stuffed nose?

For the past week and a half, I have been battling a sore throat. At first it was painful constantly so I took Nyquil and used Vicks on my throat-the works. Well now, the sore throat is more of a constant reminder every time I swallow than painful. I do not want to visit a doctor because lately I have been there for other reasons and I’m tired of going there.

Do you know of any home remedies to cure this or foods that seem to zap away soreness or anything, really?

I would be forever grateful, thanks! Have a good weekend!

vti answers:

Gargling with warm water with 1tsp of regular salt will help soothe your throat. Do this 2-3 times a day. Honey, and ground black pepper is also good for sore throat.
Drink warm beverages like herbal teas, that will also help sooth a sore throat.
You can also try steam inhalation 1-3 times a day to loosen up any mucus in your throat which can also be present.
Hope you feel better soon

Laura asks…

I feel a sore throat coming on?

What can I do to stop it from coming and what are some home remedies for sore throats?
Thanks.

vti answers:

Most sore throats are caused by a minor illness and go away without medical treatment.
Treatment for a sore throat depends on the cause. You may be able to use home treatment to obtain relief.

These tips may help you feel better.
*Gargle with warm salt water to help reduce swelling and relieve discomfort:
Gargle at least once each hour with 1tsp (5g) of salt dissolved in 8fl oz of warm water.
*Prevent dehydration. Fluids may help thin secretions and soothe an irritated throat. Hot fluids, such as tea or soup, may help decrease throat irritation.
*Use a vaporizer or humidifier in your bedroom.
*Warm or cool mist may help you feel more comfortable by soothing the swollen air passages. It may also relieve hoarseness.
Consider taking nonprescription medicine for your symptoms.
*Use nonprescription throat lozenges.
* Some nonprescription throat lozenges, such as Sucrets Maximum Strength or Spec-T, are safe and effective and have medicine (local anesthetic) that numbs the throat to soothe pain.
* Regular cough drops may also help.
*Use a decongestant.
Decongestants make breathing easier by shrinking swollen mucous membranes in the nose, allowing air to pass through. They also help relieve a runny nose and postnasal drip, which can cause a sore throat.

I am looking to switch my dog‘s food brand and want to get something that is healthy but that I don’t need to go to a specialty dog food store for.

You can pretty much bet that any commercial dog food is NOT healthy. Look at the ingredients if the main ingredient is something like corn or meat by-product then it’s not the kind of food you want to give your dog. Try looking up holistic dog foods.

Mary asks…

Dog Food???

My dogs are on Purinia ONE. So is my sister’s puppy. They all have bad gas. My sister took her puppy to the vet and asked about switching food to help. Her vet said to switich to Authority or Nutro. We are going to switch my dogs too, but i haven’t heard of authority. is it good?

vti answers:

Based on http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com they don’t rate Authority food very good. If you are going to choose between the two, I would choose the Nutro Ultra Holistic food. It only rates about a 3 (still not good but better than Authority).

We give our shih tzu Blue Buffalo. Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula (dry food) does not use animal by-products and their gluten-free recipes do not contain any artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Their food also does not have corn, wheat or soy, which have been known to trigger allergies.

You can go to the website: http://www.bluebuff.com and read more about the products they have. You can also request a free sample (and a $3 coupon) so you can see if your dog is going to like it before you buy a larger bag.

Their treats and canned food were on the recall list so I don’t recommend those.

You’ll get lots of different answers about food here, but the best food for your dog is one that meets her health and nutritional needs. Nobody can access those for your dog but you.

A good indication if the food you are giving your dog is good for them is to see how much they are pooping. If they are pooping alot, the food is probably not very nutritious. If its runny then it’s not agreeing with their tummy. If they are pooping once or twice a day and the stool is firm, then the food is probably nutritious and they are digesting the nutrients in the food well.

Jenny asks…

home remedy cure for conjuctivitus (pink eye)?

my daughter has pink eye and i have tried eye drops prescribed by the doctor and its not working what can i do.
my daughter is only 2 yrs old

vti answers:

If the eye drops are not working, most likely it is viral pink eye and there is no treatment for that type of pink eye. It will get better on its own within a week or so.

Remove the discharge with a warm washcloth applied to her eye until it is clean. Then apply a warm compress to her eye for several minutes four or five times a day.

The tannic acid in a steeped teabag is soothing, so apply a warm steeped tea bag to her eye a few times a day and that should make her feel better if she can sit still for it.

Donald asks…

The quick cure for Pink eye?

i just got pink eye bcause my eyelid is now crustyand i want to know how to get rid of it quick because i have tons of plans this week.

vti answers:

Pink Eye Cures & Treatments
From home remedies to clinically prescribed medications, there are numerous ways to treat and relieve the symptoms of pink eye. As always, it is best to consult a doctor for the proper diagnosis and treatment of your problem.
Treating Pink Eye
Treatments for pink eye are as simple as prescribed eye drops or ointments and are ultimately dependant upon which form of pink eye you have been diagnosed with–giant papillary conjunctivitis usually requires eye drops while allergic conjunctivitis requires use of an antihistamine.
Pinkeye Treatment
Treatment for pink eye is usually determined on a case by case basis. Most likely, antibiotic eye drops or ointment will be needed to treat the problem, however in some cases pills are needed. Make sure to consult a doctor before starting any treatment program.
Treating Conjunctivitis
Treating conjunctivitis is dependant upon which type of conjunctivitis you have. Antibiotic drops can alleviate bacterial conjunctivitis, while antihistamine pills or eye drops can control allergic symptoms. Medication is usually not prescribed for viral conjunctivitis, as infections clear up on their own after about three days.
Pink Eye and Treatment
Pink eye usually consists of a minor eye infection, but if left untreated, can develop into a serious condition resulting in vision loss or ulcers. It is usually treated with eye drops or ointments, and occasionally oral medication; however you should see an eye doctor for formal diagnosis and treatment.
Pink Eye Treatments
A pink eye infection will usually clear entirely after several days of treatment. The most common treatments for pink eye are prescribed eye drops or ointments. Make sure to use all of the medication for the time your doctor prescribes it in order to prevent recurrence of the infection.
Pink Eye Remedy
If you have pink eye, you know how important relief of the dryness and itchyness that it is famous for can be. One simple remedy that can be done from home is placing a moist chamomile tea bag on each of the eyes for about 10 minutes.
Pink Eye Medication
There are numerous prescription and over-the-counter medications available to treat pink eye. One of the more popular brands of eye drop is Similasan, and some drops are used to prevent infection once healed. Eyelids can now also be relieved through use of a lid scrub.
Conjunctivitis Medication
Conjunctivitis is usually treated through use of special eye drops or ointments. Other times it needs no treatment at all, such as in a viral infection. Most viral infections will clear up after a few days. For proper diagnosis and treatment, see your doctor.
Pink Eye Antibiotics
Ocassional antibiotics that must be taken by mouth are prescribed to treat pink eye, but more often than not they are given in the form of eye drops or ointments. Whatever treatment is given is dependant on the form of infection.
Eye Ointment
Sometimes instead of eye-drops or oral medication, the use of an antibiotic ointment is recommended instead. This is an especially common prescription for infants and young children, as it is easier to apply an ointment to young eyes than eye drops.
Pink Eye Cures
Usually an antibiotic eye drop formula or ointment is needed to cure pink eye, especially in bacterial infections. Viral infections cannot be cured, but will usually go away within a few days. There are also a number of home remedies and cures that are available over the counter.
Prevent Pink Eye
The best way to control and prevent pink eye is simply through practicing good hygiene. Make sure not to rub your eyes, and wash your hands frequently. Change your washcloth and towel regularly, as well as your pillow case. If you wear contact lenses, make sure to follow your doctor’s care instructions.
Viral Pink Eye Treatment
Viral pink eye cannot be treated like other forms of pink eye, and like a cold or other viral infection, must be allowed to run its course. Usually this will last about three to five days, and there are drops available over the counter that can help to alleviate symptoms.
Pink Eye Symptoms Cure
There are a number of ways to treat the symptoms of pink eye, whether prescribed, over the counter, or done at home. One popular way to alleviate the symptoms of a bacterial infection is to place a warm wash cloth over the eye repeatedly.
Similasan Pink Eye Relief
Similasan offers fast over-the-counter relief from pink eye symptoms and irritation. The gentle formula is safe enough for children as young as two, yet still effective in adults. Similasan can help quell inflamation and redness, and is available at most major drug stores.
Eye Therapy
You can soothe the dryness and discomfort that comes as a result of pink eye with a number of home remedies and treatments. Most commonly done is use of a warm compress. With allergic conjunctivitis however, use of a cool compress or over-the-counter eye drops is recommended.
Eye Drops
Eye drops for pink eye can either be prescribed or purchased over the counter. Whichever treatment that you choose to opt for depends on your symptoms and the level of severity of your infection.

Maria asks…

What are some easy home remedies to cure pink eye?

I most likely have pink eye. I`m going to the doctor but i would like some helpful ideas to help speed up it being cured.
Thanks.

vti answers:

It is very contagious. Keep your hands away from your eyes and go to the doctor. You do not want to give this to someone else. If you do take the advice of warm compresses DO NOT let anyone else touch the compresses. They could be infected easily!

Mandy asks…

I have pink eye and have meds but want some home remedies for my eye to help also I have a few more questions?

Hi I have pink eye I went to the DR. Got Medicated eye drops, and am taking them every three hours. I would like some home remedies, not necessairly to cure it but to help with the pain swelling and drainage. Alaso someone told me that whe you wake up your eye will be matted shut, is this true? if so is there anything I can do to prevent it? If not what should do when I wake up if it is matted shut?
Please and Thank you!

vti answers:

I have had it a few times and unfortunately, there’s not too many home remedies that I have found help, however I have found that managing it properly helps it to go away faster. (Once I didn’t manage it very well and it lasted about 9 days … It should only last about 3)

*Don’t rub your eyes
*If touching your eyes, wash your hands before touching anything else (to stop spreading infection)
*Even if only one eye is infected, put drops in both eyes – as the infection may spread between them
*See if your eye drops are antibiotic eye drops (these make a HUGE difference)
*Change and clean your pillowcases, clothes and blankets frequently, so that the problem doesn’t flare up again!

As for your eyes sealing shut- this will happen while you sleep and your eyes weep. There’s not too much you can do to stop it, wash your eyes before bed and keep some tissues beside your bed incase when you wake up at night. When you wake in the morning, dab it slowly with some tissues wet with warm water – this breaks it apart and cleans off all of the gunk.

I tried sleeping with an eye patch once – but this only makes it worse and is uncomfortable and painful to get off in the morning.

Good luck!

vti answers:

Natural hair care is what you need to turn to if your hair has been excessively dyes, bleached, or damaged in any way.
Before you start making some of these natural hair care products, consider these hair care tips:

Make sure you are using the right shampoo. Always get a shampoo that is suited for your hair type. A shampoo for dry hair might smell better, but it doesn’t mean that it will fit your hair’s needs.
Change the shampoo often. Hair gets immune to a certain shampoo if the shampoo has been used for too long. Try a new one, see if you notice any changes.
Apply the hair packs and balms once or twice a week. The more nourishment you provide, the more heathy the hair will be.
Avoid using a hair dryer. It makes the hair brittle and dries the scalp out which may lead to dendruff.
Trim your hair regularly. Remove the damaged ends.

Combined with homemade hair conditioners that are prepared within minutes, the effects that you will get will be multiplied.

Banana hair pack

Ingredients:

1/2 banana

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

1 tablespoon of honey

Mash until creamy. Hair has to be dry to do this. Leave it on your hair and wash out after 20 minutes. After that, use a shampoo.

Milk based Hair Balm

It is simple as this: after you wash your hair, wash it with some milk and leave on for about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. It helps bring back the softness and natural shine.

Sour Cream Hair Pack

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons of sour-cream

1/2 teaspoon of wheat germ oil

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix it all together, apply to hair and rinse off after 10-15 minutes.

Olive oil for shiny hair

Ingredients:

1 teaspoon of olive oil

1 egg

Mix the two and apply on hair. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and wash off using warm water, then shampoo.

Egg white for oily hair

1 egg white (more if your hair is thick or long).

Beat the egg and simply apply on dry hair. Leave it on until it is dry and crusty. Wash off with warm water and shampoo. Doing this a couple of times a week will help reduce the oiliness and remove the excess oil.

Hair pack for damaged hair

Ingredients

Juice from freshly squeezed lemon

2 egg yolks

1 egg white

1 tablespoon of honey.

Mix all the ingredients, apply on hair and let it rest for 10 minutes. After that, shampoo and rinse off.

For soft and silky hair

Ingredients

3 tablespoons of olive oil

2 tablespoons of honey

Mix it all well, apply on hair. Wrap the hair with a towel or shower cap and let it rest for 15 minutes. Shampoo and rinse the hair.

Increase hair volume

Ingredients

1 tablespoon of vinegar

1 tablespoon of honey

1/2 cup of warm water

Spray bottle – pharmacy stores usually sell them for a couple of dollars, get a smaller one.

Mix the ingredients in a bottle and shake well
After you wash the hair with shampoo, let it dry a bit.
When it is damp, spray the mix you have prepared.
Massage the scalp so the liquid gets absorbed better
Don’t rinse the hair off, simply let it dry

For shiny and soft hair

Ingredients

1 tablespoon of coconut oil

3 tablespoons of sour cream

Mix the ingredients and apply them on hair.
Wrap a towel around it and let it rest for 30 minutes
Shampoo and rinse off well

Grease control

There is a simple way to get rid of greasy hair.

Every time you shampoo your hair, mix a little bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice in. Shake the bottle well (you could use a smaller bottle for this purpose) and shampoo the hair. Rinse off well.

This way, you will control the oiliness of the scalp and also, if you have blondish hair, you will actually help keep it light longer.

Natural remedies for insomnia?

Anything? Please?
I’ve tried a few different medications, but I really didn’t like the way they made me feel.

vti answers:

Sometimes essential oils can help people to get to sleep.

The key is trying to get our daughter to tryand relax and unwind prior to going to sleep at night as this helps a lot of people with sleep problems.

Essential oils can be used to help you get a good nights sleep. Here are some of the top essential oils which can calm and relax, helping to you to fall asleep more easily and get a good nights rest.

Lavender helps to calm the nervous system and relax the body. Lavender is used in aromatherapy to fight insomnia, anxiety, depression and fatigue.

Mandarin is a wonderful gentle oil that is popular for use with children. It helps encourage sleep by easing nervous tension and soothing irritability.

Chamomile has a good relaxing effect on the nervous system. The oil can be used as for other essential oils (see below). Alternatively try a cup of Chamonile tea about half hour before bed

Bergamot as a great stress relieving oil to help you relax. This citrus fragrance encourages restful sleep and is believed to be a natural anti-depressant.

There are a few different ways you can use essential oils to help you sleep.

– Skin application or Massage. Never apply essential oils directly on your skin, make sure to dilute in a carrier or vegetable oil. (you will need about 5 teaspoons of carrier oil for every 10 drops of essential oils) Massage the blend into feet and hands or around the neck, shoulders or upper back if you get tense in these areas.

– Bath. For an adults bath, add 4-6 drops of essential oil just before you get in and swish this around to mix well. Essential oils do not dissolve readily in water but will disperse if well mixed. Do not prepare the bath in advance as much of the volatile oil will be lost. Don’t be tempted to add more oil, even if the amount looks tiny. Essential oils are very concentrated and the number of drops suggested is more than sufficient. Allow plenty of time for a relaxing soak for at least 10 minutes, or up to 20 minutes if you can! Some of the oil will adhere to the skin and some will be inhaled as an aromatic vapour

– Inhalation: can simply add a few drops of the oil onto a tissue and tuck inside your pillow case so you will inhale the oil through the night for better quality sleep or add the essential oil to an aromatherapy vaporiser. Do not use an oil burner with a candle as it is not safe to leave this burning while you are asleep.

Hope this helps!

Anyone got any ideas for natural remedies for RA?? Rheumatoid Arthritis?

vti answers:

Definitely not a good idea, as complete work disability is the usual outcome of rheumatoid arthritis. Antibiotics should be added to anti-inflammatory and pain medications.

If you get any significant relief from natural remedies, you don’t have rheumatoid arthritis!!!

I have had seronegative rheumatoid arthritis for almost 27 years. The telling signs of seronegative rheumatoid arthritis are the following:
– Joint pain in the feet (or cracking ankles) in the early 20’s;
– Fatigue;
– Joint deformities of the fingers, a specific sign of rheumatoid arthritis;
– Negative or low level of Rheumatoid factor;
– X-Rays showing bone erosion, a consequence of rheumatoid arthritis;
– Generalized arthritis, involving the whole body;
– Elevated levels of C-Reactive protein and Sedimentation rate.

NSAIDs like Voltaren, COX-2 inhibitors like Celebrex, acetaminophen like Tylenol, and codeine are all used to control inflammation and relieve the pain of arthritis.

Regular exercise like walking, biking and swimming are also helpful for most patients. Make sure that you are not overweight as carrying too much weight can only increase the pain of arthritis.

You should consult an Orthopaedist who will order blood tests, joint scans and X-Rays to better diagnose the type of arthritis from which you suffer.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (http://www.aaos.org) maintains a public online directory where you can find the address and phone number of orthopaedists who belong to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Orthopaedists are listed by geographic location and family name, inside the USA and in most countries.

The membership directory of the AAOS is located at:

Lyme disease could be a possibility. Ask your doctor to test you for the bacteria causing Lyme disease.

Are there any other cases of arthritis or rheumatic diseases among your relatives? Chronic forms of arthritis are usually prevalent in families where a defective gene is passed on by parents to their children.

There are a few hundred types of arthritis and rheumatic diseases. The good news is that science is progressing rapidly in its understanding of rheumatic diseases.

Antibiotics are now used to achieve full remissions for at least 40%, if not 65% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. For more info, please join our group at:

Natural acne remedy, help??!?

I’m on benzaclin right now. (clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide) It’s not as effective as my old medicine, which had to stop because my skin was way too irritated. I was wondering if any natural remedies would be safe to use with my medication, and what.

vti answers:

Believe it or not honey is a natural disinfectant and will help clear up acne. It will feel gross but it will help. Also aspirin is made from salicylic acid which is an acne medicine so you could crush up some aspirin and add a little water or even honey to make a natural acne medicine.

Sharon asks…

Natural sleep remedies?

What are some of the best non-prescription remedies to aid sleep? I am starting a new job tomorrow and in the past I have had trouble sleeping beforehand.

vti answers:

There is evidence that lavender oil, either added to a bath or dripped onto the pillow is very sedative.

Sandy asks…

What kind of distance-learning degrees can I get? Anything interesting and fun?

I know all the boring ones that everyone advertises–business, nursing, etc. Anyone know of any fun or interesting ones?

Probably from a real school, but for the right education, I may be interested in a non-accredited school. (I saw some for natural health/holistic medicine that I don’t think are accredited.)

I’m interested in bachelors, masters or doctorates. Also even individual classes if they’re fun and interesting.

vti answers:

Well that really depends on what you consider interesting. I would go to www.petersons.com and then click on distance education/online learning and u can search by major or areas of interest. That will help u. Good luck

anyone know of an alternative medicine equine vet in NC?

i was wondering if anyone knows of a vet that does holistic medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic etc, near raliegh, north carolina. also reasonably priced… im kinda on a tight budget at the moment.
my horse has got what is called a hunters hump, which is supposed to b a sign of some ligament damage in her hind end. thought it would b a good idea to go this route, since everything else hasnt worked.
id appreciate the help.

vti answers:

This site can help you to find an AVCA certified veterinarian chiropractor, who may also be qualified in the field of alternative medicine. But at least it will be an actual veterinarian, and not just an unlicensed practitioner.

Lisa asks…

how do i become educated in alternative medicine?

Im really interested in alternative/natural medicine and i would like to become a proffessional. What should i do? Do i need to study “normal” medicine first? do you know some good school or something that offers online courses (as i live in Slovakia). I feel this is something i really want to do in my life but i dont know how to start. Im esp interested in holistic medicine, herbs, nutrition and accupressure

vti answers:

This is my field and I love what I do. The best education is experience. But that is not hard to come by. I now know hundreds of others in this field and we lean and learn from each other. If you are truly interested in this contact me and I will help you in every way I can.

Sandra asks…

What is the best holistic and alternative medicine way to treat congestive heart failure?

I AM SEEKING MY YAHOO BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO ARE SPECIALIST IN HOLISTIC AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE. MY QUESTION FOR THIS FORM OF CARE, IS WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TREAT CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE? THANK YOU YAHOO BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

vti answers:

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is nothing to mess around with. Avoiding salt is the first
step, but medications are needed to improve heart function as well as regulate fluid levels
in the body. If not brought under control, CHF can cause death. Get the help you need.

Richard asks…

Are You Ever Disturbed By The Total Lack of Scientific Knowledge of the Average Person?

It just amazes me the crap i read on yahoo answers. I was in the psychology forum and someone asked if having deja vu meant you were having a psychic moment and almost everyone who answered said “absolutely, we all have psychic powers….” What about people buying into ancient or holistic medicine or the century and half old debate about evolution? I could come up with a thousand more examples but i am limited on the number of words that i can type.

So are you ever just totally disturbed by the lack of scientific knowledge of your average citizen?

vti answers:

There’s actually a related problem that disturbs me even more.

The fact that people have crappy science knowledge is sad.

But what is really *dangerous* is just how easy it is for these people to develop an outright *hatred* of people who do understand, or even enjoy science …

… With a special disdain for scientists!

You don’t see people who are bad in history hate historians. Or ones who are bad at poetry hating poets. Or someone who can’t play a musical instrument hating musicians.

So why are people who are bad at science also prone to literally *despising* scientists!

You see it in the discussions about evolution, or about global warming. When it is pointed out that the majority of scientists agree on both evolution and on global warming, then the response is, without hesitation, that all scientists are either frauds, or idiots, or both. *ALL* of them.

None of these people seem phased by the idea that these same scientists are curing diseases, and providing energy, and making their lives better. None of them seem aware of the irony that they are willing to call scientists all idiots … Using a computer to do so.

Where does such utter disdain for a profession come from?

I once asked (see source) the following question in R&S:
“Creationists: Do you think scientists are universally stupid, or universally corrupt?”

And it was absolutely *astounding* to me how many people said … Without hesitation …. “both”!

Mary asks…

what are some home remedies for a sore throat?

i have a sore throat right now and it hurts to cough, swallow, and sometimes it hurts to inhale. does anybody have WORKING home remedies out there?

vti answers:

The best home remedy is homey and lime. Put some honey in a bowl and squeeze enough lime in it so that the mixture is a bit sour. The lime will cut the cold and the honey will soothe the throat. Take about a tablespoon every hour. This ALWAYS works for me plus it is quite yummy. Hp u feel better =)

Lisa asks…

I am quite sick with no chance of going to the doctor — need home remedy?

I either have strep, or bronchitus, all I know is it is hard to breathe, I am coughing a lot, though, it’s not the rough gritty coughs, just random fits of coughing and my throat feels raw. It’s been like this for a week or two, we have to pay over $100 to go to the doctor, we’re poor, so that’s not a possibility. I’ve noticed people seem to care more about your personal life and who you are when answering a question, so, please, answer it with home remedies for my symptoms instead of being concerned about me not going to the doctor.

Thanks!

vti answers:

Go somewhere and see a doctor of some sort (Have to say that or else I can be sued by the City AND State for not giving good advice)

As far as home remedies that’s difficult as strep is a bacterial infection and requires antibiotics for quick remedy. How ever you can ease your suffering while your body fights it off by gargeling with warm salt water and nasal gel (NOT SPRAY) there is a “cold remedy” in the local drug stroe that is a local over the counter gel for instant absorbation into the blood stream through the nose try that to see if it helps any at all.

Your throat feels raw because of the constant coughing (air is drying out the membranes along the esophogus) keep a bottle of water with you at all times or throat spray, do your best to stay away from cirtrus fruity stuff Citric acid can burn if there is an open sore.

Strep throat is a serious matter, unchecked it can cause a high fever and even kill. Surviving that, it leads for future infections of the throat and eventual rupture of the esophogus. In other words, I don’t care how bad off you are, you will be worse if you don’t suck it up and pay for meds. Missing work because you refuse to get medical attention will only add to your money problems.

Carol asks…

How to stop a dry cough ?

I’ve had a bad cold for a few days now & I want to stop coughing so violently. My throat doesn’t hurt though since I have a humidifier in my bedroom. But I want some nice home remedies for my cough. Preferably not honey though. Honey upsets my stomach & it’s too sweet for me. Please help ;o

vti answers:

Try lipton tea or chicken soup. Or you could just go to the pharmacy and get some over the counter medicine for coughs

Laura asks…

Sore Throat! Whats the best thing to get rid of it ASAP?Always starts just as a basic cough, takes weeks to go?

by that time its been every type of cough there is & my throat is raw! Doctors wont ever give me anything & this time i cant afford to be off work again! So im thinking to get it at the beginning before it really kicks in.

Im thinking home remedies rather than cough medicines…maybe gargling several times a day with something?

Any helpful suggestions ?

vti answers:

Drinking lots of orange juice or taking vitamin C will help. Gargling with warm salt water will help the soreness and swelling in your throat. You should still take some sort of medicine everyday. Have you ever tried Airborne? It is an herbal remedy that some people swear by.

Daniel asks…

What are some good home remedies for a cold?

I have the works!
Itchy throat
Cough
Asthma
stuffed/runny nose
sneezing
chills
sinus headache

what are some home remedies that have worked for you? 😀
LOL having a cough irritates my asthma… thats probably how I should have worded it 😛

vti answers:

Hot orange juice, netty pot for your nose, peppermint oil in the bath tub, sinus meds for your head, a blanket and some good movies. Drink, drink, drink. You need to flush out all the snot in your head, and hot drinks will soothe you’re throat.
